    When we first reported on the news that there were vampire rumors swirling through the hallowed halls of Boston Latin, we, like just about anyone else who is at all plugged into pop culture, assumed that the vampires in question were of the sparkly, shipped-straight-out-of-Britain variety. It's all Twilight all the time these days.

    Boston Blotter: Brockton Apartment Shootout Kills One

    -- A man went on a daytime shooting spree in a Brockton apartment house this afternoon that killed one and left two in the hospital. The gunman fled the scene in his car after police responded to the shootings and engaged cops in a high-velocity shoot-out. The incident came to a close when the gunman's car collided with that of a passerby, ending the getaway and sending the suspect to the hospital. Despite close calls, no police were reported injured.     --A woman who was pregnant with twins was shot in the back last night in Mattapan. Police are saying the 22-year-old was shot through her apartment window. The woman is now in stable condition.     Army sergeant Joan Duran, 24, of Roxbury, died in Iraq. A report on Fox 25 said that Duran was on his second tour of duty and was scheduled to get out in two months. He attended Boston Latin and joined the Army right after graduation. He was based out of Fort Bragg.
