According to the Boston Globe, the Boston Police Department traced a 60% drop in gun violence to the Hub's recent rash of rainy weather. Shooings dropped from 38 in June 2008 to 15 in June of 2009. Just one fatal shooting was reported last month when there were 22 rainy days, the Globe said. Commissioner Ed Davis said "When the weather turns bad, and people are inside, there’s less violence." Prior to June, violent gun crimes were up in 2009, which prompted cops to meet with gangs to try to prevent continued violence in the summer months.
We all remember the mooninites and Star Simpson. Now Boston can add another dummy debacle to its resume. Mannequins are the latest threat to our safety; specifically, mannequins who like the environment, and are chained (bike-locked, it appears—damn hippies) to banks in protest. As global warming might melt their plastic bodies, it is understandable that mannequins want climate justice. Still, we are skeptical that anyone, mannequin or otherwise, would be able to focus on the economy or the climate a week before Opening Day, and suspect that this mannequin a foreign import. At least it only caused a brief bank closure and was cleaned up in an hour and a half, unlike its animated cousins—who, thanks to Jezebel, now know how to dress for their shape (hint: invest in a good bag to carry your often-unwieldy quad laser).

Pulido's actions included getting caught by the FBI offering to protect a shipment of cocaine.
Boston panhandlers proudly uphold the city's reputation for being as direct as possible--sometimes too direct and so direct that it merits a trip to jail. The Globe did a story on how the police have been dispersing the panhandlers and "squeegee men" at Mass Ave and Melnea Cass.

A BPD officer has found himself on the wrong side of the law after a St. Patrick's Day trip to Savannah, Georgia. The crime of which he is accused is especially unsavory: "Joyce forced his way into the home of two women and held them against their will. --Some none-too-bright teens robbed a pizza delivery guy of his pie yesterday in Dorchester. After scoring their pizza, they took off, and the BPD had the easiest time ever finding them. For starters, they left footprints in the snow, and they dropped pizza crusts in their building. [BPD News]
--A brawler went crackers at 10 City Square in Charlestown--yes, that's Olives, owned by celebrity chef Todd English. This perp gave employees a hard time by "starting fights with several patrons and urinating in the bar area." People pee in public all the time, but at Olives? Did he not like the squab and chanterelle mushroom risotto with corn foam? Alleged disrespectful foodie urination wasn't enough for this guy, and he perp grew increasingly bold. He tried to bite employees (maybe they tasted better?) when they attempted to toss him, and he insulted police officers.
