The Boston Bike Film Fest opens tonight at the Brattle Theatre, taking a broad perspective on all things bike. Last year, we enjoyed films about soft pretzels in Philly and a bike-powered rock tour across Wisconsin. This evening the festival promises a bike rap video, a farm-raised bicycle-related story, and a feature on fat bikes in Alaska (not to mention the Louie video we've already seen). Tomorrow night we'll see a Boston-based perspective on biking from a local filmmaker, a take on the RAGBRAI ride across Iowa, and other bike-related goodness. It's a good chance to celebrate your love of two (or maybe one, or three, but not four) wheels. Just make sure you bike there. more ›

The best documentaries aren't necessarily the ones that provide you with book-smarts on any given subject, but the kind that make you actually care about a subject that you normally couldn't be bothered about. It just so it happens that Best Worst Movie fits that description to a "t," and it's a film that will appeal to more than the hardcore fans of the cult movie that the documentary is based on. For most casual movie-goers, cult movies like Troll 2 are a dime a dozen, finding the right audiences, fame, and adoration decades after their initial, pitiful releases. more ›

Yesterday, we described him as "Jens Lenkman with a banjo or Peter Bjorn and John except only one person." After seeing the Tallest Man on Earth at the Brattle last night, we stand by this description, and can provide further proof of TMoE's quirkiness. Presented by World Music/CRASHarts, the show provided a nice blend of cute antics and quality music, and the Brattle proved to be a surprisingly nice setting for a show. more ›

It's funny that Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz's new film is called What Happens in Vegas. It implies the usual counterpart to that line, "...stays in Vegas," but sadly the film doesn't take its own advice. This movie should have stayed in the film reel, or in the writer's head, or in Ashton Kutcher's pants, or any other place it didn't have the opportunity to enter the collective American consciousness. If there's anything we don't need, it's another film about a Britney-esque marriage and the stupid decisions that come before and after it. This thing has gotta be dumber than K-Fed after a few cold ones, not to mention derivative of more crappy "love" story films than we can count. more ›
