He agrees to a hometown discount, $11.2 million contract (over three years) with the Sox, which was pretty much the one thing his agent didn't want him to do. The first series of the season is in the books and the Red Sox are on their way to Baltimore with a 2-1 record after last night's 2-1 victory over the Texas Rangers. Of the last two games there were only a few bright spots to showcase, Jonathan Papelbon's performance being one, Josh Becket's being another. Monday's game was an all-around impressive display of offense - Mike Lowell's bat is slow...what? - and pitching. Thank the baseball gods that the Curt Schilling is pitching like Curt Schilling. While the real baseball season hasn’t even started yet, all Sox fans have been eyeing new Yankee Johnny Damon ever since that first press conference with his long locks chopped off for Steinbrenner’s organization. There hasn’t been much to comment on since Damon just recently returned to the lineup after sitting out since March 10th with a shoulder injury. Home for a very brief, and wet, four-game homestand, the Red Sox toed up with the Oakland Athletics before heading off on the last road trip of the season. The Sox dropped two of the games, both of which were painful. Game One showcased another unknown pitcher Boston had never seen before, Joe Blanton, and kept the Boston bats relatively silent and baffled. This continued the trend of seeing the Boston offense fall flat on its face whenever a new arm appears on the bump. Speaking of trends, Bostonist was hoping Curt Schilling's performance had turned the corner after the stellar job in NY a little over a week ago, thereby bucking his losing trend. Sorry, no such luck. Schilling gave up six runs on his way to loss number 8. more ›

The golden boys of Boston known as the Red Sox might not be so shiny anymore...well, at least not Pitcher Bronson Arroyo. A link has been circulating around the city this week of some female co-eds hanging out socially with Arroyo and fellow Sox pitcher Lenny Dinardo. No big deal, right? Well, the photos on this girl's photo site are pretty interesting and Arroyo's wife doesn't seem to be in any of them.
