It was kind of adorable, the way the Celtics were quipping on Friday night. After defeating the Bucks, 104-82, and tying the franchise record for the best start on the ol' Boston parquet, the Celts tried to demur. Which, in turn, reminded us all of how awesome the team is.

Bostonist was a few minutes late arriving in Davis Square on Saturday evening. We briefly worried that we wouldn't be able to find Boston's undead elite lurching their way toward Harvard Square. Fortunately, zombies aren't the neatest of creatures and we were able to follow a twisted sort of crumb trail composed of corn syrup drops, fabric scraps, and distant cries of "BRAINS!" Zombie organizers told Bostonist prior to Saturday's march that last year's event...
Last night, the Red Sox absolutely tore up the Orange County Angels - whoops, the Anaheim Angels of Los Angeles, 10 to 1. The Wakefield-Mirabelli machine was in top form. Pitcher Tim Wakefield pitched a beautiful game, allowing only one run, and catcher Doug Mirabelli surprised everyone, hitting a home run. That homer galvanized the Red Sox, and everything went downhill for the Angels. When Jonathan Papelbon arrived at the plate mound to close, he...
Adam at Universal Hub first brought this to our attention, then we heard it on WBZ in the car: it's a brilliant Gil Santos mashup in which he simultaneously announces the opening day games of all four of our local teams. That Zdeko Brady Matsuzaka is a hell of an athlete, leading the league in assists, RBIs, and completion percentage. The Red Sox joined the growing number of MLB teams who've had to cancel games...
-- Red Sox fans got their first real regular-season glimpse of their $147 million team on Wednesday night, as Boston handed Kansas City a 7-1 loss at Kauffman Stadium. Jason Varitek got his first hit of the regular season with a single in the fourth, JD Drew's stepping up, Kevin Youkilis hit the team's first home run in the seventh and Josh Beckett (five innings, two hits, five strikeouts, four walks) put in a decent...
The Celtics lost to the Kings 104 to 101. They had no business losing. After some good luck with beating the Bucks and Gerald Green's victory at the All-Star Slam Dunk contest, the Celtics were coming into their game with the Sacramento Kings with a little momentum.
We were diligently writing today's Redux and thinking of lecturing Dan Shaugnessy for committing the major journalism fallacy of assuming everyone "stopped eating and sleeping" when Dice-K touched down in Fort Meyers. Not everyone is tracking every move of Dice-K. Everyone is actually obsessing over tracking every move of Britney Spears. OK, that's not true. But the 24-hour-cable-news channels are, anyway. You probably already heard about it - Britney Spears up and shaved her head....
The Celtics earned a little Valentine's Day present by finally snapping their 18-game losing streak against the Bucks last night. It didn't look pretty at first. The Bucks, who were also laboring under a rotten record, were pounding on the Celtics and closed the first quarter 32-19. And then Paul Pierce and Gerald Green, who is gearing up for the All-Star Slam-Dunk competition Saturday night, caught fire. We remembered why we love Paul Pierce so...
Cathleen Carr and Daiva Deupree explore the darker side of lady-likeness in "Two Girls for Five Bucks". Born just over a year ago in Beantown’s backyard, “Two Girls for Five Bucks” has since expanded to New York City but returned home this month for their first annual “Two Girls for Five Bucks, Holiday Pageant." Last night, Bostonist was lucky enough to be at the Improv Asylum (where these two ladies are also main stage alums) to witness what Carr and Deupree describe as a “collage of lonely ladies who do desperate things.”
