Stuff to Eat in the Suburbs: Natick —The Met Bar and Grill

Since the Natick Mall turned into the Natick Collection, there have been a lot of changes. The stores are more expensive, there are a whole lot more of them, and the food court has suddenly lost its appeal due to the plethora of new restaurants that have opened up in the mall. New options include P.F. Changs, The Cheesecake Factory, and even Sel De La Terre if you’re feeling fancy. But sometimes, when you’re at the mall or sitting around at home, you just want a good burger. On those days, we recommend the Met Bar and Grill in the Natick Collection.

Five Guys, a national burger chain beloved by many, will be opening locations in Massachusetts this summer. The new stores will be in Dedham, Needham, and Swampscott. No word on a Boston location. All burgers will be appropriately delicious: a company spokesman says "We don't pretend to be healthy." Yum.

After a weekend of rain where all we heard was disgruntled Bostonians complaining, because that's what we do best, about the weather we rock into the week. Miraculously the Red Sox managed to play all their games this past weekend making us furiously check the forecast for WBOS' 14th annual EarthFest coming up this weekend. For us it marks the first of many outdoor events that will happen this summer, and it's Memorial Day...

LAist is experimenting with blogging dates from J-Date, but finds the best men are found offline. Some date vicariously online and that is one reason why porn is big -- really freaking big -- so they ask if they should cover XXX since the heart of it lays in the city's San Fernando Valley. A writer grapples with her food porn photography obsession, another gets censored on Flickr, one gets scooped by the LA...

Legendary Harvard Square joint Bartley's Burger Cottage, which christens it's juicy burgers after famous figures, has decided that the burger named after former president Larry Summers is passé. Maybe diners avoided the burger out of protest for Summers' foot-in-mouth comments about the abilities of female academics. Or maybe they steered clear of the burger because its toppings of swiss cheese and honey mustard sounds like a downright nasty combination. But it might be Bartley's...

Bostonist loves a night out, especially when she can save the receipt and write it off on her taxes, so attending Blogtoberfest at Match was like a dream come true. We'd been hearing about the luxe lounge since 2005, but, until last Thursday, hadn't found a good excuse to strap on our high heels and do some drinking. The hook for this trendy hotspot lies in the selection of specialty martinis and gourmet miniburgers that allows you to mix and match your food and beverage (get it?) and the promise of a meetup provided perfect bait to toss back a few cocktails on the freelance tip.

We first heard about The South End Buttery and their organic cupcakes when they first opened up in the South End this past spring. Bostonist was heavy into cupcakes at the time (now we're intrigued by homemade lemonades) and had heard great things about their 'cakes. Well, we never got over to The Buttery until recently for a lovely Friday afternoon lunch and we were very pleased with the results so much that we were too stuffed for a cupcake. (Mind you, the 90 degree heat didn't help either.)

During the off-season, Fenway Park underwent some drastic changes, including the removal of the glass from the .406 Club and the creation of the EMC Club, as well as the Home Plate Pavilion just above it. Last night, Bostonist had the good fortune to sit in the new EMC Club, for the first home game against the Yankees, no less, and we thought we'd gloat share. We arrived early enough to take in what might...

Bostonist’s inbox is always filled with random press releases, announcing the “hottest food trend in Boston” (in case you didn’t know, it’s tapas) or the chance to interview some “hot band from Kansas City” in town at the Middle East. So this afternoon, a few e-mails trickled in, with one from Match Burgers and Martinis sticking out among the bunch. Bostonist first ventured over to Match when it opened this past fall and had a...

This post was written by Seattlest editor Dan Gonsiorowski. "The Week in -ist" will run every week, typically on the weekend, but we're just getting the kinks worked out of this East-coast/West-coast thing.

Located on Mass Ave. in Cambridge between Harvard Square and Porter Square, Cambridge Common is a pub-grub beer-bar that caters perfectly to its college-aged crowd. This isn't an upscale place, but Charlie Christopher, owner of Christopher's, Toad, and West Side Lounge, has been keeping his Red Line crowd happy for years with high-quality, low-priced food. Busy almost any night of the week Cambridge Common's patrons range from music geeks waiting to enter the Lizard's Lounge downstairs, to law students just looking for a pint before finals.

After hearing the news that Harvard Square is in danger of losing yet another institution, Casablanca, Bostonist took to the streets to find out what’s taking the place of those things we knew and loved. Mr. and Mrs. Bartley’s Burger Cottage has long been the Square’s favorite burger destination. But recently b.good has opened up shop adding to the burger offerings already augmented by Lee’s Lunch, John Harvard, Charlie's Kitchen (home of the famous double), and Grendel’s Den among others. The owners of Filepe’s (known for their burrito and taco based fare) have opened up their own burger joint in the Garage: Flat Patties.

Ever have one of those raging hangovers where all your body craves (besides hydration, Advil, and a promise to never drink again) is greasy food? Well, Bostonist found themselves in this predicament on Sunday afternoon and decided to head down to Eagles Deli in Brighton’s Cleveland Circle. For any Boston College student or alum, you’re probably familiar with this deli/fast food joint where you can get anything your hungover heart desires. It was ranked “The Second Best Place in the World to Pig Out” by the Travel Channel a few years ago and that pretty much sums up Eagles.

Bostonist has frequented The Blue Cat Cafe on Mass Ave. a few times and was surprised to hear of its closing this past summer. Sure, it was never packed in there when we went for a drink, but it certainly is now that the space has been reopened as Match, a sleeker and more sophisticated spot than the old Blue Cat. With the tagline "burgers and martinis", Match sounds like a place where every patron would be chowing down on a juicy burger with a martini sloshing around in the other hand. Yet, when we walked in at 9p.m. on Friday, it was packed with people who seemed more interested in cocktails than food. (How could we forget that when a new place opens in Boston, it instantly becomes the place to be seen?) The restaurant was filled with mostly twenty to thirtysomethings in the U-shaped bar area, with all the tables on the dining side occupied. After fighting our way through a sea of black tanktops, we were able to order an $8 vodka tonic and take in the full scene of Match. The space itself is nice, decorated in dark wood with the back wall actually a row of fire. (Bostonist isn't sure if it was the heat from the open flame or the vodka, but we were seriously burning up in this place.)

In a blink of the eye, the Nemo Showcase is upon us. We figure there's no better way to kick things off than with an interview. Bostonist caught up with Morning Theft, a NYC-based band with strong Boston roots. They join the Nemo Showcase, playing tonight at TT the Bear's as part of the Lunch Records line up.

Wednesday night marked the launch of Boston Common magazine with a blowout, star-studded event at the Boston Center for the Arts’ Cyclorama in the South End. Perhaps “star-studded’ is a stretch, but by Boston standards, it was an impressive showing. Celebrities included: Steven Tyler (Boston Common cover star); Christopher Reid (event MC, and yes, Kid of Kid ‘n Play fame); Daniel Sunjata (actor, FX’s Rescue Me); Doc Rivers (Boston Celtics head coach); Todd English (celebrity...

Coming off a six-game road winning streak, fans of the Red Sox had a weekend of baseball, fireworks, and (Fenway) franks to look forward to. Of course, the Indians did come in and put a damper on things, taking two of three in the first series. The tribe rode the back of Travis Hafner on their way to those two wins. But - credit where credit is due here - the Indians had one Mr. Keith Foulke to thank for serving up, among other things, a grand slam to Hafner in a game the Red Sox were leading late.

On the corner of Brookline Ave and Landsdowne is Patrick Lyon's new multi-million dollar monolith. Game On! opened a couple weeks ago and Bostonist was there after spending the morning in the ER. The line was down the street, yet there were more employees inside than patrons. The first floor is a spacious and tasteful room with a large bar and restaurant feel. When you descend the stairs into the basement and pass the gift shop (?) sensory overload hits. There are over 90 plasma screen tv's and a huge bar.

While thousands of runners will be carbo-loading and burning it all off on Monday's 109th running of the Boston Marathon, Bostonist has been looking into some more relaxing options that don't involve sneakers or water bottles. The 5th Annual Boston Beer Summit starts tonight at 6 p.m., where thousands gather at The Castle to taste over 200 beers from over 50 different breweries. From local brands like Sam and Wachusett to some international flavors like...

The town of Brookline was the first to start a ban on smoking in restaurants and bars in November 1993, and since then, other towns and cities have followed suit. The state has set up some hefty fines ($300 per Business that violates it and $100 per smoker) but says that Boston has only had a dozen or so violations in 2005. Sorry smokers, but it looks like you'll still be relegated to the cold outdoors to have a cigarette. With this news today, it looks like this ban is here to stay.
