The man with the rifle at Burlington Mall was really carrying an umbrella. Yes, a man was carrying an umbrella when rain was forecast. "The situation is cleared. There was no threat," State Police said in a statement. State Police reportedly interviewed the man, after he called to identify himself, and determined he wasn't a threat. State Police and Burlington Police detained a man who appeared to match the description of a man carrying a rifle in the Nordstrom's at Burlington Mall on Tuesday. Police arrived at 10 a.m. to search the mall and surrounding area. The mall was evacuated. The suspect was reportedly "a short, Caucasian man wearing a gray shirt...carrying a backpack." No injuries were reported. John Hurst of the Massachusetts Retailers Association said mall security has been increased lately.
