Four Eastham residents, possibly a family, went to Cape Cod Hospital on Monday morning after apparently suffering carbon monoxide poisoning in their home after the batteries were removed from carbon monoxide detectors. Eastham firefighters treated 13, 24 and 52-year old males and a 50-year old female. Three victims were since sent to a Boston hospital. On Friday, 11 Nantucket residents were hospitalized after a carbon monoxide leak. [Cape Cod Online]

A second carbon monoxide related incident happened in Massachusetts last night. Firefighters evacuated four single-family homes on Bolton Street in South Boston because of high CO readings. The Boston Fire Department reached the scene at 9:15 p.m. and learned NStar traced the problem to a burning underground cable. Nobody was injured. An eight-year old Quincy boy died of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. [Globe]
Brandon Yang, 8, of Quincy died of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning and his mother is hospitalized in Boston. Yang's 16-year-old brother from both of them unconscious in their Quincy home on Thursday. Quincy firefighters reportedly found a lit charcoal hibachi grill in the Yardarm Lane home. Yang, a third-grader at the Sung Harbor Community School in Quincy, was pronounced dead at Quincy Medical Center. The State Police are investigating the case. A faulty boiler was the apparent cause of elevated carbon monoxide levels (about 30 parts per million; up to 20 is considered safe) at Marion E. Zeh Elementary School, which was evacuated this morning after the CO alarms went off. The Northborough school, which has students in kindergarten through fifth grade, was evacuated around 9:30 this morning. The boiler room was ventilated and classes were expected to have resumed as normal by noon.
