It was back to business as usual last night at Fenway Park. The celebrated World Champion, Boston Celtics made an appearance last night, but unfortunately that winning spirit didn’t rub off on the hometown team, the the Red Sox lost to the Cardinals 5-4. To make matters worse, the weather Gods weren't on our side either which caused a delay of game.

We're the most starry-eyed, green-Kool-Aid-guzzling optimists anywhere, but even we never thought it would be this good, this fast. Even on a night when two-thirds of Ghidorah wasn't quite up to snuff (Ray Allen 4-for-14, Kevin Garnett missing his usual double-double), the Celtics still had enough to put the clamps on Jersey and win their seventh straight. Any time you defensively hold a team to 69 points and 33% shooting, you're doing something right. And...

No games last night of local interest. So let's take a spin around the country to see what's going on in the rest of the sporting world.

First, the Patriots draft troubled but talented safety Brandon Meriweather. Now, they trade for talented but troubled wide receiver Randy Moss, for a fourth-round pick and a round of KFC Famous Bowls. Is Bill Belichick trying to start a gang? Or is he convinced that he can take these miscreants and ne'er-do-wells and mold them into a Super Bowl team? Our money is on the latter. "There's no such thing as a bad boy," said...

The NCAA final four is tonight, with Georgetown playing Ohio State at 6 pm and UCLA playing Florida at 8:47 pm. To which we say, go anyone but Georgetown! Apologies to Doc Rivers' son, Jeremiah Rivers, who plays on the team as a guard with burly center Roy Hibbert, but we can't root for the team that thumped Boston College. And the start of baseball season is tomorrow. Since the first game of baseball season...

Bostonist had our eyes on the altar this morning as we awaited the late breaking news from Italy. It wasn’t Torino but that sovereignty tucked away in Rome we like to call the Vatican. While the paper reported today that there was an impending list, and our very own Archbishop might be in the top ten, we heard it on the radio and found the release online. The Vatican announced today that Archbishop Sean, as he asked to be called when he was appointed in 2003, will be elevated to the rank of Cardinal on March 24.

The Olde Towne Team has yet ANOTHER problem... and this one is big! The Sox are now going into litigation in order to keep the baseball that was used to get the final out of the 2004 World Series when Edgar Renteria (yep, that Edgar Renteria), then of the St. Louis Cardinals, hit a chopper up the middle that was snagged by Keith Foulke, and flipped to first baseman Doug Meintkiewicz to give the...

admin-red-sox-logo.gifIt was only time before the golden boys of Boston were going to lose a bit of their shine. Sure, we’ve heard of the Sox players waiting out for more lucrative contracts, but now firstbaseman, Doug Mientkiewicz is looking to make some more cash with the game winning World Series ball. He’s got it in a lockbox in his Florida home and no one, not even Theo, can get at it.
