People get around the city in many different kinds of cars and trucks, whether at work, at play, or just out for a drive. Segways, too.

Now that texting while driving is on its way to being banned, there's a service that can help you report bad drivers, including texters... possibly by texting (or something similar)! CarPong is a service that allows you to post information about cars by license plate number, providing a way to alert assholes of their sucky driving, compliment nice rides, muse about your own vehicle, or fling insults. Over the weekend, this Bostonist was wishing for a way to alert a car owner of his/her vehicle's incessant car alarm; this might've been an apt method. The service currently seems to be based online rather than through text messaging, even featuring email instead of SMS alerts, but that doesn't mean folks won't access it through their cell phones, or that it won't have a texting component soon. So is this a good way to dis on bad drivers, or just another dangerous driving activity (not to mention a possible privacy threat for those wary about connecting license plate and personal data)? Time will tell if it catches on and develops more useful components. more ›

Oh, the poor drivers! Much like the poor investment bankers we discussed yesterday, drivers are concerned about plans for bike lanes on the BU Bridge, and how they might impact motor vehicles by getting rid of a traffic lane. Never mind that bicyclists can be killed by cars, while cars can only be dented by bikes (if that). Never mind that the BU Bridge is just one of many routes for cars to get over the river. Never mind that most of the people driving cars could probably just bike instead (and perhaps would, if bike lanes made it more convenient and safe). Never mind that the DCR says traffic problems can be resolved by a reconfiguration of the Cambridge rotary. Those nefarious bicyclists must be stopped and their proposed lanes shut down so more motorized vehicles can cross the Charles! Check out the current bike-friendly plan and rip it apart. more ›

--Miguel Perez, 22, was shot around 1:00 am while standing in the rain outside the bar Gigi's Palace. Brian Ballou at the Globe writes that the owner of the bar didn't let Perez in because he thought Perez was "trouble" and may have been involved with a shooting that happened inside the bar two weeks ago. The owner, Andy Barros, can't be blamed for not wanting trouble--his cousin died outside Gigi's Palace last year, and... more ›

With two accidents in the past month on the area near the Leverett Connector scrutiny of the passage has increased. Channel 5 reported early this morning that the State will employ a consultant to look into the safety of the curves, roadways in general, and signage. Nearly a month ago a car careened off a ramp closing the roadway for a number of hours. Just this week a big-rig truck struck the side guard rail,... more ›

Because Akon obviously isn't getting enough exposure these days, Congress threw their weight around and has all but boxed the little guy out of providing radio service to rabid fans. Ever since midi files essentially died and MP3s rose from the ashes, streaming audio has been a source for many to listen to and discover new bands via the Internet. Locally, Sooz has been creating and updating Exploit Boston Radio featuring all local bands, all the time. Bostonist first discovered the Casual Lean, the Snowleopards, and Bang Camaro while tuning in to the Internet stream. But today, along with a Boston Globe article on the subject, Sooz announced that there might not be a long future for Exploit Boston Radio if the current royalty hikes take hold. They'd force a minimum of $500 in fees for even the tiniest of stations, for big stations and streams of live radio the sky will be the limit for their required royalty payment. more ›

Opening February 26 in the Gund Gallery at the MFA, David Hockney Portraits promises to make up for such recent disappointments as "The Things I Love: The Many Collections of William Koch" and "Style, Speed, and Beauty: Cars from the Ralph Lauren Collection." As much as Bostonist can appreciate the new audience that such exhibitions pulled into the MFA, it is more than a welcome breathe of fresh air to have British artist Hockney's portrait exhibition gracing our fine city for a few months. more ›
