Cat Power will be at the Orpheum. Last time Bostonist saw her, she seemed a little plowed and, with her dark glasses, she resembled country singer Ronnie Milsap. Since then, she's been hanging out with Karl Lagerfeld. She's different every time, but the music is always memorable. 7:30 pm. more ›

Having trouble getting concert tickets lately? The changes on Lansdowne Street might be to blame, as suggested by Michael Marotta at the Herald. Renovations on Avalon and Axis hasn't started, and bands who would have been perfect for that spot in a bind. Either they play shows in venues that are too big, which makes the band look lame, or their shows sell out in small venues. Take what's happened to Editors and Justice for example: more ›

Undergrads and grad students are making their way into the new rental for September. The lucky ones have renewed their lease (or are keeping up with payments on the mortgage). The music you'll be hearing is blaring from the cab of the U-Haul and out of the windows of that f*ing third floor walk-up you offered... more ›

All this and we're tivo-ing the Sox/Yanks games... more ›

Lent, what a time to give something up. Over here at Bostonist Headquarters we're thinking hard what we're going to drop come Wednesday. It won't be our MP3 player and it won't be live music. Maybe with this, week four of the now weekly music pick running on Monday we're going to be able to give up our lack of coverage of the local music scene. With fingers crossed we're raising a pint to forty days and forty nights with local music somewhere on the agenda. more ›

Okay, like Bostonist, you’ve seen a few of the recent Boston performances by Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, Radio 4, and/or !!!/Out Hud, and love most of the post-punk revival bands, right? (If not, we’ll forgive you for skipping over this post). And as for the early ‘80s groups whose angular, dance rock sound today’s bands are reviving (or sometimes merely deriving), well, damn, you can name check with the best of ‘em. Gang of Four,... more ›
