Sports Redux: Recovery Day

They really did want it as bad as we did. On Monday, as Boston began to adjust to its new role as a one-sport city, the Bruins made their way to the Garden to pack up and ship out. That's when fans found out that the team wasn't just playing hurt in its effort to bring the Cup back to the Hub, but that Aaron Ward's face was minor compared to some of the injuries going on.

Sports Redux: Seven's Up

After twice completing three-day sweeps of its possible games, Boston was due for a little balance. It arrived on Thursday to usher out the Bruins, lingered on Friday to pester Jon Lester and left Red Sox fans nervous if they turned off their TVs before midnight on Saturday. Today is all about restoring a sense of order. Boston lost Game Seven on the ice, today it hopes to win Game Seven on the parquet.

Sports Redux: Drama, Drama, Drama

We already knew that tonight was going to be intense, given that the Celts, Bruins and Red Sox again find themselves playing on the same night. Monday surprised us, however, by successfully upping the drama surrounding most of these matchups. In one of those "only in Boston sports" setups, tonight has the potential of becoming another one of those nights that we discuss in the years to come.

Sports Redux: Overtime, All the Time

Listen, we're as down for a Boston victory as the next hometown fan and we're willing to do whatever it takes to get that W recorded. But unless the federal government is going to approve adding at least a couple extra hours to the day, this pattern of extra innings and overtime play has just got to stop.

Smell that? That's the scent of blood in the air. The Bruins have a chance to notch their first playoff series win in a decade. And all they need to do is win one more game - but for the psyche of their fans and the region in general, we recommend they win tonight and end any suspense.

Thank god George W. Bush isn't a Celtic. On a visit to Ireland (a prime example of using the presidency as an excuse to travel the world before he gets kicked out), Dubya tried to shoot hoops with some Irish youngsters, but missed four of four shots. As The Independent puts it, "His sporting aim was far from true." We think his aim has been off in some non-sporting situations, too. (The video is good, but the picture is priceless.)
