We should start by saying that math was never our strong suit, and we didn't progress past Trig. (in which we got a D+ our senior year of high school). Nevertheless, we shall endeavor to analyze the question. We'll focus on lost productivity due to traffic, if only because it's a straightforward figure, and we'll limit ourselves to the Central Artery: 16 minutes and 42 seconds a day comes to 69 hours and 35 minutes of time per year per car, if we assume 250 work days. Of course, only half of that is lost in the morning, so we have 34 hours and 42 minutes of actual lost work time. (OK, you can see where this is going. Big Dig. We haven’t said it in a while and we’ve been missing that familiar ring of stories told about our $14 $15 billion hole in the ground. There’s not too much to report. Well, the waiting for a supermarket is over; a brand new Whole Foods Market is opening today in the Charles River Plaza on Cambridge Street. (A Stop... more ›

Bostonist was happy to read today about the homage to the late, great Tip O’Neill given in the form of naming rights to the I-93 tunnel. After Romney proposed naming the tunnel system running through the city "Liberty Tunnel" to honor the revolutionary spirit of Boston and to confront the terrorist attacks we’re happy to have had a win for the Democrats. The "sneaky" legislation put into the federal highway funding bill this month is... more ›

Well, we all know about the Big Dig. Lots of constructions, lots of money (14.7 billion dollars to be exact), and lots of complaining. Just when the Mass Turnpike Authority (MTA) was looking at the light at the end of the tunnel, a leak sprung up in their plans, literally. The leak in the I-93 tunnel was only the start to the troubles of the biggest civil project in U.S. history. more ›
