Newton Police are looking for David Mark, 24, of Albany, N.Y., who has been missing since Wednesday after last being seen at Boston Beer Works. He's got Asperger's syndrome and Type-1 diabetes, and might not have enough insulin for it. Massachusetts finished 38th in the rankings of the worst driving states. Kansas ranked first. Really. Coyotes visited recently Brookline and Beacon Hill and now one was rescued from the Charles River in Cambridge near the Charlesgate Yacht Club. The coyote fled through "unfrozen water" as animal control officers first tried to rescue it. The Animal Rescue League captured the coyote on Tuesday afternoon and transported it to Tufts Wildlife Clinic in Grafton to be treated. Tufts placed the coyote in the carnivore ward overnight. The Globe tried to praise the coyote in a piece in "the angle" by Heather Hopp-Bruce, and ended up saying coyotes don't "deserve" our respect. Very often, they deserve it and don't get it. They don't exist to entertain us or gain our respect.

Food
Yes, Boston's got food trucks. Today, there's a festival to prove it. The city's 1st Annual Food Truck Festival features the best food you can find on four wheels. Vendors include Speed's Hot Dogs, M&M Ribs, The Sausage Guy, Grillo's Pickles, Lincoln Street Coffee, and Roxy's Grilled Cheese. SoWa Food & Produce, 500 Harrison Ave., Boston. 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. The truckers are on Facebook.
If you were anywhere near the Charles River after 5 p.m. yesterday, you probably saw some combination of the following: people in green hats, sweatshirts, and face paint; picnics that included bottles in brown paper bags; and couples. Lots of couples. This photo by historygradguy really captures the scene, or at least a substantial part of it. It's a perfect moment, caught in beautiful light. Taken on a Canon PowerShot SX200 IS.
- We're getting a powerful storm. Maybe. The cones are still out, though. [WBZ]

We’re on a roll with the wintery ice shots this week. Photographer jeff tamagini shot this one and did a great job accentuating their geometric quality. We like how the tapering ice flow and bright reflected sunlight attracts our eyes to the back of the frame and guides them out of the picture.
We love the pearly opalescence of this ice shot by MeredithBaker. The soft greens and blues look great against the desaturated wooden dock.
iMatthew has a great silhouette shot from the Esplanade. The heron makes for a good subject, with the foreground rocks and background cityscape adding depth and dimension. The warm to cool gradient also adds a softness to the harsh lines of the silhouettes and gives just the right amount of "pop" to the photo.
Well, it happens every year: the Head of the Charles Regatta. There are boats, there's water, there are rowers. Find results from today and the schedule for tomorrow, which is slated to be a rainy rainy day. Photos tagged Bostonist by historygradguy and Paul Keleher.
Mike Cialowicz has a black and white that would look great on any art collector's wall. This image has some great tones while not being overly contrasty. It's easy to see that there's a wonderful story contained within this photo.
We don't often have an HDR make photo of the day since the topic seems to polarize the photographic community, but Iceburns has one that we thought had the right mix of composition and tone mapping. Taking 3 hand held exposures and blending them into an HDR, this shot gives great color in the rocks and water, while keeping the sky from getting blown out.
In a slightly belated honor of our country's birthday, we thought we'd bring you a few of our favorite fireworks shots from Saturday. All of these shots and more can be found in our Bostonist Flickr Pool.
.laz seems to have put himself into the right place at the right time to get a terrific sunset picture of Boston. As the name implies, the slice of red nicely covers the city as blues and browns dominate the sky and water. The clouds are full of texture and substance, while the sailboats are a great addition to the Charles.
atomicjeep has today's Film Friday shot. This Esplanade shot was taken on Fuji Superia and has great tonal qualities. The photo also has some natural vignetting which helps with the framing. What we love most about this photo however are the reflections in the foreground and the soft waves on the water.
After a year of work to fix a "support beam in need of immediate repair," the Department of Conservation and Recreation reopens the upstream sidewalk on the Longfellow Bridge today, fully reopening the bridge to pedestrian and vehicular traffic in the first time in forever. The best news? The Longfellow will be open for the Charles River fireworks show this July 4th. The Commonwealth has spent more than $12.5 million since August, 2007 to fix the bridge. [DCR Press release]
Tom and Gisele rented kayaks, Tom's flipped over and he allegedly had to be rescued. New England's fun couple got their boats from Community Boating before running into trouble in the Charles River. Is the kayak up for sale on E-bay yet? Note to Community Boating: This is the best thing to ever happen to you!
atomicjeep took this shot along the Charles. It's a great Film Friday throwback taken on Fuji Superia. The tranquility of the scene is pleasing, and it certainly makes us want to skip out on work and go relax by the water.
Perhaps it's the warmer weather but we're finding more and more great photos in our flickr group pool. I'd like to take a moment to ask everyone on flickr to check out the pool, as there are lots of great photographs there that don't make it on to the Bostonist site.
Jeff Tamagini also took some super photos of the Head of the Charles Regatta yesterday. If you missed yesterday's event, here's what it looked like. Today's last races start at 4, so you still have plenty of time to get down to the river before it's all over. (Side note: We're pretty sure we saw some of Jeff's photos on the walls at Lower Depths while watching the game there last night. Head there tonight if you'd like some art to accompany your baseball and beer.)
Here's a slideshow of awesome Head of the Charles photos taken by our pal Paul Keleher on Flickr. Get the race results from the event website.
An animal alleged to be Loch Ness Monster was spotted by a group on a Boston Duck Tour yesterday. An observer of the incident provided the following drawing of the encounter. An area paleontologist, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told the Bostonist in an exclusive interview that, "the positioning of the flippers, combined with the angle of the jawbone, leads me to believe that the creature represented in the meticulously executed, true-to-life drawing is most likely Nessiteras rhombopteryx. However," she added, "I would need to see the dorsal posterior aspect of the body to confirm these findings."
