We visited last summer; now the beer garden at our beloved Charlie's is open again for the warm weather. Stop by today, tonight, and forever (well, maybe not forever; winter will come again, we fear) for delicious beer in an outdoor atmosphere. They've even added a restroom, so you don't have to go back indoors to relieve yourself anymore. Splendid!

Okay. You've moved in, mostly. You didn't tear up your truck on Storrow. Your room is still a mess of boxes and bags, and your place is only half-furnished with street goods. You haven't gotten bedbugs from that mattress you found on the curb (yet). You don't know when you're going to buy your books, and you don't know how to get to your classes. We can't help with all that, but we can help with the important stuff: beer.

The already-amazing Charlie's Kitchen in Harvard Square recently added a beer garden, and it is exactly what we've been dreaming of our entire lives. Cute plants and a mossy rock wall make it feel like a real garden, and beams overhead offer a sense of structure without prompting feelings of claustrophobia (though the stools at the bar are a liiittle closer together than we'd like). The outdoor section feels much larger than the indoor, probably mostly because of the openness (and accompanying brightness). There are a decent number of tables (mostly located to the left of the rock wall-facing picture we've featured), some stools at the bar, and an acceptable amount of standing room.
-- If you saw a red-handed man downtown today, he was probably a bank robber. Police are searching for a man in his 50s in connection with the afternoon hold-up of the First Federal Savings Bank. The man fled the scene in a cab until a red dye pack in his loot bag exploded. He then fled on foot. Confidential to cabbies: people running from a bank with a bag of money are likely to ruin your upholstery. [Globe]
