Revere police arrested the owner of Maya Transportation on March 2 for sexually assaulting a five-year old girl from Everett on a school van. He was arraigned at Chelsea District Court on Thursday and charged with rape of a child and indecent assault and battery on a child. He is held on $100,000 cash bail after pleading not guilty. An alleged bank robber is at large after fleeing from police outside the Century Bank on Route 16 in Everett following a robbery at the bank. Police confronted a man outside the bank as he got into a getaway car. The driver accelerated towards the officer who responded by firing his gun and hitting the driver. -- Joel McDonald, 20, of Chelsea escaped Thursday while being taken to Chelsea District Court for an arraignment on charges from an incident earlier this year. McDonald was handcuffed when he escaped. Chelsea police Chief Brian A. Kyes said of the escapee: "Some kids are very fast. Like lightning. He’s young and he has the motivation to go." McDonald was reportedly wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants, and a red T-shirt. He has his hair in braids, weighs 140 pounds and is 5' 8''. He is "extremely dangerous." A welcome change might be coming to the way that strippers in Massachusetts get paid. Following an August decision that strippers at King Arthur's Lounge in Chelsea were improperly classified as independent contractors, a new lawsuit has made the same claim for a group of strippers in Salisbury. Depending on how this lawsuit shakes out, it could mean that strippers across the state will begin being classified as regular employees, with more robust rights. more ›

-- The Red Sox "B" logo is everywhere these days. Unfortunately, it's now appearing on alleged criminals while they are doing bad things. In New York, 13 muggings have been perpetrated since January by a man in a Red Sox hat. He does his thing on the subway, mainly against women, and has taken cash, bank cards, cameras, phones an i-Pods. He gets around, too, as he has struck in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens. Newsday describes the suspect as a "Boston fan" and decided to include a reference to David Ortiz and Kevin Youkilis in their coverage. Bostonist is not laughing. more ›

The operator of the Andrew P. McArdle Bridge, also known as the Meridian Street Bridge, was placed in protective custody after he was found “in a state of intoxication" while at his station at around 4 p.m. on Saturday. Chelsea Police were sent to the bridge to check on the operator after he failed to respond to a call from a tugboat driver to raise the bridge. According to WCVB, Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes didn't give specific details about the operator's condition. The operator was not identified beyond being a 49-year-old employee of the Boston Department of Public Works. Another operator reportedly replaced him at around 5 p.m. No charges have been filed, and according Mayor Thomas Menino spokeswoman Dot Joyce, the operator was placed on paid administrative leave until the incident is investigated. more ›

-- A 15-year-old boy was shot at point blank range in the head on his way to school in Roxbury this morning. He is not expected to live. Police say that the gunman had been lying in wait for the boy. Security cameras show a man in his late teens wearing a black jacket crossing the street to assault the victim. Police have not identified the victim's school or advanced a motive for the killing. -- Norton Cartright, the 21-year-old Chelsea man who assaulted his mother with a claw hammer and left her to die in a closet, was sentenced to life without parole by a Suffolk Superior Court Judge today, according to the Suffolk DA's office. During sentencing, prosecutors read aloud a letter from Cartright's 10-year-old brother that read, in part, “I think he should stay in jail for the rest of his life because if he got out in 15 to 20 years he would be 30 or 40 something and he could get away with a lot, like he could kill everyone." more ›

-- A man was found stabbed in the kitchen of a Dorchester home yesterday afternoon. The victim had been stabbed by his brother-in-law during a fight, police say. -- Yesterday's brutal stabbing in Chelsea may have been the culmination of a violent domestic conflict. Eugene Teixeira, 21, was arraigned today on charges that he stabbed his mother's boyfriend Shadeed Wiggins to death. Teixeira's 16-year-old brother also faces charges of home invasion and disorderly conduct after the pair broke into their mother's house in pursuit of Wiggins, 25. According to reports, Wiggins had attacked Janeen Teixeira, the brothers' mother, earlier in the day, part of a five-month pattern of alleged physical abuse against her. Janeen Teixeira had asked her sons to leave the house, and, when they returned, armed, Eugene Teixeira stabbed Wiggins 6 times, authorities say. [Globe; Herald] more ›

-- Richard "Pops" Picardi, Sr., a 76 year old cab dispatcher, was arrested Friday for dealing drugs from his Chelsea workplace. The Revere man was noted by police for his advanced age and his prosthetic leg.
