More Strippers File Lawsuits

A welcome change might be coming to the way that strippers in Massachusetts get paid. Following an August decision that strippers at King Arthur's Lounge in Chelsea were improperly classified as independent contractors, a new lawsuit has made the same claim for a group of strippers in Salisbury. Depending on how this lawsuit shakes out, it could mean that strippers across the state will begin being classified as regular employees, with more robust rights.

SoxBlotter: A mugger, the subway and Bon Jovi

-- The Red Sox "B" logo is everywhere these days. Unfortunately, it's now appearing on alleged criminals while they are doing bad things. In New York, 13 muggings have been perpetrated since January by a man in a Red Sox hat. He does his thing on the subway, mainly against women, and has taken cash, bank cards, cameras, phones an i-Pods. He gets around, too, as he has struck in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens. Newsday describes the suspect as a "Boston fan" and decided to include a reference to David Ortiz and Kevin Youkilis in their coverage. Bostonist is not laughing.

The operator of the Andrew P. McArdle Bridge, also known as the Meridian Street Bridge, was placed in protective custody after he was found “in a state of intoxication" while at his station at around 4 p.m. on Saturday. Chelsea Police were sent to the bridge to check on the operator after he failed to respond to a call from a tugboat driver to raise the bridge. According to WCVB, Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes didn't give specific details about the operator's condition. The operator was not identified beyond being a 49-year-old employee of the Boston Department of Public Works. Another operator reportedly replaced him at around 5 p.m. No charges have been filed, and according Mayor Thomas Menino spokeswoman Dot Joyce, the operator was placed on paid administrative leave until the incident is investigated.

Boston Blotter: Boy Shot in the Head in Roxbury; Stabbing Victim Dies

-- A 15-year-old boy was shot at point blank range in the head on his way to school in Roxbury this morning. He is not expected to live. Police say that the gunman had been lying in wait for the boy. Security cameras show a man in his late teens wearing a black jacket crossing the street to assault the victim. Police have not identified the victim's school or advanced a motive for the killing. Boston Blotter: East Boston Manslaughterer Pleads Guilty

-- Victor Rosario, a 21-year-old East Boston man, pleaded guilty to manslaughter today when he admitted that he beat a man to death with a baseball bat in 2007. [Suffolk County DA's Office]

-- Norton Cartright, the 21-year-old Chelsea man who assaulted his mother with a claw hammer and left her to die in a closet, was sentenced to life without parole by a Suffolk Superior Court Judge today, according to the Suffolk DA's office. During sentencing, prosecutors read aloud a letter from Cartright's 10-year-old brother that read, in part, “I think he should stay in jail for the rest of his life because if he got out in 15 to 20 years he would be 30 or 40 something and he could get away with a lot, like he could kill everyone."

-- A man was found stabbed in the kitchen of a Dorchester home yesterday afternoon. The victim had been stabbed by his brother-in-law during a fight, police say. The 42-year-old suspect faces the charge of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon. The victim remains at Boston Medical Center in critical condition. [BPDNews]

-- Yesterday's brutal stabbing in Chelsea may have been the culmination of a violent domestic conflict. Eugene Teixeira, 21, was arraigned today on charges that he stabbed his mother's boyfriend Shadeed Wiggins to death. Teixeira's 16-year-old brother also faces charges of home invasion and disorderly conduct after the pair broke into their mother's house in pursuit of Wiggins, 25. According to reports, Wiggins had attacked Janeen Teixeira, the brothers' mother, earlier in the day, part of a five-month pattern of alleged physical abuse against her. Janeen Teixeira had asked her sons to leave the house, and, when they returned, armed, Eugene Teixeira stabbed Wiggins 6 times, authorities say. [Globe; Herald]

-- Richard "Pops" Picardi, Sr., a 76 year old cab dispatcher, was arrested Friday for dealing drugs from his Chelsea workplace. The Revere man was noted by police for his advanced age and his prosthetic leg. He faces charges that he sold the painkillers OxyContin, Roxicet and Percocet to undercover police agents over a period of about a month. [Herald; Globe]

--This is the kind of story that makes you wonder about people. A fatal car accident unfolded early this morning in Sharon. A good Samaritan pulled over to help on the scene, and one of the men involved in the accident stole the good Samaritan's car. [Fox 25]

--The BPD gathered together owners of establishments that sell liquor in response to the two incidents in which a creep offered women rides, took them to Charlestown, and sexually assaulted them. According to the BPD, both crimes "originated in the State Street area."

Republican presidential aspirant and former Massachsuetts governor Mitt Romney is the projected winner of the state of Massachusetts over John McCain this Super Tuesday, according to CNN. And that victory was by no means a given since Romney didn't exactly leave Massachusetts wanting more.

--DA Dan Conley has announced a suspect in the murder of Jeffrey Santiago at King Arthur's Lounge in Chelsea--19-year-old Jesse Camacho. Conley has authorized a warrant and wants the public's help in finding him. Here's a description:

--More on the murder of a man at King Arthur's Lounge on Thursday: The shooting may have been the result of a gang rivalry, but the shooters and the victim were in the strip joint together for two hours, just coexisting, before the violence erupted. --A parking rage incident turned so ugly in Chelsea early this morning that a man was shot in the stomach. The Chelsea police chief said the whole mess started solely because one parked car was "touching" another parked car. And this is what happens when people with anger-management issues have guns. --Early yesterday morning, a 16-year-old was shot on Columbia Road. According to the BPD, witnesses said the victim was taking out the trash when he got hit. His injuries are non-life-threatening. [BPD News]

--A truck crashed on the Revere Beach Parkway last night. No one was hurt, but the incident shut down the parkway in both directions. According to WBZ, "State police officials said a truck went under the overpass on Route 107 North heading toward Chelsea and smashed into the top of the Route 16 bridge, bringing concrete down onto the roadway and damaging Route 16." --The BPD arrested two people in the South End for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. The gun wouldn't have been discovered if it hadn't accidentally gone off in the bathroom.
