The April rain is seemingly behind us, the flowers are springing, but we're not yet upon summer festival season. Soon enough we won't be able to go a weekend without a sleepless night with ringing in our ears as we spent too many hours in the heat a little too close to a bank of speakers broadcasting to the masses. Well, that or a sweet show at Harbor Lights The Pavilion. Tuesday, 5/8 Grant-Lee...

We're digging through the week's music finding that the best deal of the week for jilted lovers comes from Upstairs on the Square. Local rocker Ad Frank plays a show for only $13 for singles, it's $14,000 for couples. Other than that and the iPod DJ Night at River Gods (you can't do all Al Green) we're ignoring the occurance of Wednesday. You'll probably be too busy for music as you're buying flowers, chocolates, or a teddy bear holding a heart and going out to some fancy dinner or you're likely finding out if someone will actually win the million on Deal or No Deal. Either way Wednesday will likely be a bust.
All of a sudden we've got winter. The bonus prize is that it came late enough that when we leave work at 5 o'clock there's still natural light – soon enough it will still be light when we reemerge from the commute home underground on the T. Until the next few weeks pass and we can taste the summer concert and festival season in the spring air we'll continue to keep jamming through the...
This weekend both NEMO and the Beantown Jazz festival will be taking place in town. NEMO is a showcase for New England artists, a networking opportunity for the little-known and the big fish. The performances will invade, occupy, and entertain at just about every venue in Boston. It's a great opportunity to see your favorite local band – or discover a favorite you never knew you had. It's a whole lot to take in,...
Fall seems to have set in, at least for now. the temperatures are dropping and people all over the metro have been forced to put their flip-flops away for some more sensible footwear. At least until it gets warm again in another week. Or so we hope. Music abounds again this week and we're listening. Tuesday, 9/12 Branford Marsalis Quartet Braggtown CD Release Concert Berklee alum Branford Marsalis created Cambridge-based (and Rounder distributed) Marsalis...
We’re working for the weekend and it's only Monday. Rainy day outside and the sun is reported MIA until Wednesday. Despite the current gloom, things are looking mighty green outside - a good sign of spring. Flowering trees have done their thing and soon we’ll be smelling the lilacs. For now we’re settling for another cup of Stella while we soak up the tunes and the increasing temperatures. Monday 4/24: John Vanderslice mk Ultra...
Bostonist just pulled True Love Waits, Christopher O'Riley's renditions of Radiohead’s music for piano out of the CD Changer. The passion of O’Riley’s rock-to-classical piano transcriptions left us singing the lyrics to the song in our head, though the arrangements did seem like they would compliment Tori Amos’ trademark lyrics of archetypal subjects like Mother Earth. What’s next for the cross-genre enthusiast? Bjorkestra.
