Attention criminals! Don't ask cops to smoke crack and don't tell them you have crack on you to smoke with them. Last week in Central Square, two undercover detectives arrested a Medford man who allegedly asked them to go get “get some beers and smoke some crack.” The suspect also asked for a crack pipe and showed the officers the cocaine. They walked with the suspect across Mass. Ave to Essex Street where they displayed badges and identified themselves as Cambridge Police detectives. The suspect had to be told what he did wrong. State troopers and customs agents arrested Carlos J. Lanns, 24, of Hamilton, N.J., was arrested at Logan Airport on Monday with two kilograms of cocaine stashed in his shoes' insoles. He hid the drugs in checked bags in a JetBlue flight from the Dominican Republic to Boston. The drugs reportedly have a street value of $200,000. Lanns was charged with trafficking a Class B substance in East Boston District Court on Tuesday and is held on $300,000 with a hearing set for October 5. [WCVB]
Hingham Police cited two students for marijuana during a sweep of Hingham High School Friday. The school was in a lockdown with all students restricted to classrooms for over an hour. State police arrested a 22-year old East Boston woman was at Logan Airport on Sunday morning for allegedly trying to smuggle cocaine through Customs and Border Protection in a diaper. After providing inconsistent answers, the suspect underwent a pat down search in which police found 1,000 grams of a "powdery substance" that turned out to be cocaine on her. She is being held on $100,000 cash bail and will be arraigned in East Boston District Court on Monday. She arrived from Santo Domingo. All charges alleged until proven under law. [WCVB]
Two alleged homemade bombs exploded in front of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Marshfield on Friday night. Police said nobody was hurt and the explosions left “basketball sized craters." The bombs were allegedly thrown from Highland Street onto the church grounds. Police said it was probably a prank and not a direct threat to the church. Police asked anyone with information on the case to call 1-800-682-9229. [WHDH]
Nathaniel A. Hudon, 31, of Danvers was arrested after kidnapping a Malden woman and leading police on a 20-mile pursuit after she escaped. Five State troopers eventually captured Hudon at a rest area after he climbed to the roof of the service plaza building in Charlton. The victim escaped at the Westborough rest area on the Mass. Pike despite the suspect's removal of the inside handles of his car. She kicked through the window. Police allege he was under the influence of cocaine. He'll be charged with kidnapping, assault and battery, operating under the influence of narcotics, operating a motor vehicle in endanger, failure to stop for police, speeding, and marked lane violation on Monday. -- Two men attacked Olympic gold medalist Jenny Thompson in Brookline on Monday while she was riding her Vespa scooter. The suspects approached her in a car and Thompson asked them "Did you know your headlights are out?" One suspect told her "your lights are out" and punched her in the face. As Thompson bled and screamed for help, the men fled. Later that night, police arrested three teens found riding on alleged stolen scooters. No connection to the Thhompson case was made yet. [WBZ]
-- A 47-year old South Boston man was arrested and charged with one count of possession of child pornography and one count of distributing child pornography after allegedly compiling among the largest collections of child pornography in the world. Police found 16,000 child porn files on the suspect's computers. Assistant Attorney General Christopher Kelly said the suspect confessed despite pleading not guilty on both charges. His adult criminal record allegedly includes 55 entries. The defense attorney said the suspect blamed "pop-ups" for the pornography. on his record, Kelly said. He added Shipps spent time in jail in 1990 and 1994. Among the charges on his adult record are assault and assault and battery on a police officer, Kelly said. --For the third time in recent weeks, Quincy police have arrested people on drug charges who allegedly brought their children to apparent drug deals. On Thursday, a 21-year old Hyde Park woman brought her 4-week-old baby boy with her while making an alleged heroin delivery. Police allege the suspect admitted to having heroin hidden in her underwear when officers confronted her. The woman and a man who accompanied her were both charged with heroin trafficking. The baby was taken to Quincy Medical Center and police notified the state Department of Families and Children. -- Breaking: Police have arrested a suspect in the March 6 double stabbing at the Roxbury Crossing Orange Line station. MBTA police apprehended an 18 year-old Roxbury man on the platform of the Jackson Square station this afternoon.
