Dear Lola, Oh, Lola, how could you? You incurred the wrath of Gawker and left local bloggers puzzled as to what you were about, you coy little vixen! You claim to be the Boston Globe's new fashion magazine. You claim to be Boston's newest best friend. You resemble Louise Brooks, but shrunk down into the size of the old TV Guide. You seem so harmless at first glance. But we've discovered that you're a little...
Exploit Boston has toyed with the format of Game Night they began collecting games to play. It was in Ball Square for a little while, The Paradise Lounge on occasion, then camped out at Common Ground in Allston for a while. But the Common Ground just didn't seem to be the right fit for Game Night. So Sooz ventured out down Harvard Ave and found a new soul for the more-or-less monthly get together. Tonight the games will be played at Soul Fire at 182 Harvard Ave in Allston (b-line and 66 bus accessible) for the second month in a row (and it could be the new home). Last month was a full house in the new venue.
Tomorrow night, July 11, is the Exploit Boston Game Night at Common Ground in Allston. The evening has grown from it's humble beginnings at True Ground in Somerville to a still modest collection at the Paradise Lounge to the current incarnation of nearly 40 games to choose from at Common Ground in Allston. From 7 to 11 pm the cardboard lids will be removed, childhood memories relived, and good wholesome fun (and beer) will be enjoyed. This week a handful of prizes will be given out, and Bostonist will be on hand to give one lucky winner a pair of tickets to the Paradise show July 30 with Editors and Bon Savants. Exploit Boston has secured other gift certificates (to places like The Games People Play to Common Ground itself.) Apples to Apples is the house favorite – a game you can jump into at any time and still do well – and doesn't come with the same time commitment level as, say, Risk.
Exploit Boston and Bostonist are bringing you a two part contest. The first part comes tomorrow, Tuesday, night at the Exploit Boston Game Night at Common Ground in Allston. The second part is all-internets-all-the-time. Two great guilty pleasures, Jewel and Rob Thomas, are playing a show at the Bank of America Pavilion on Friday night, June 9. Toby Lightman will open the show for the two pop superstars. Rob Thomas and Jewel share something in...
We’ve been digging out all day. After we held our ground on the second floor yesterday only to find that our exterior door was all but snowed shut when it was time to go to work this morning. A bit of shoveling later we’re turning to warm hearts not cold snow. There's a good week ahead of us, temperatures are due to rise, indoors and out. Dinner reservations are hard to come by for tomorrow, and $54 prix fixe is steep. Bostonist has another plan: grab a bottle of Mad Dog, a paper bag, and hop the T for one of this week’s music agenda shows:
On Wednesday nights in Allston at Common Ground, friends of Bostonist host iPod DJ Night. Music starts and sign-ups start around 9, and people get 15-20 minutes to play whatever they want from their mp3 players (it's not exclusively iPod so bring your iRiver). Common Ground is at 85 Harvard Ave.
