Days after a boy in British Columbia was attacked by a mountain lion, we find news that a "pet" mountain lion has been removed from a Rhode Island home. The cougar had belonged to a man who died last spring; the man's widow was unable to get near the animal to care for it properly. Rhode Island requires a permit and proper facilites for the possession of wild animals such as carnivores. The Rhodie Lion will be sent to an animal sanctuary in Florida.

Boston is in many ways the cougar's paradise. We have Bill Belichik's unending quest for the elusive predators, the Globe's unhealthy obsession with them, and lord knows how many Casual Encounters in which they take part. So, what better place for an upcoming reality television show called The Cougar to find bait? That's what they said. It's an open cougar casting call, so if you are a man between the ages of 21 and 29 (sorry, Coach B.), and you want a carefully segmented demographic to watch on television as a cougar traps you, start planning your Saturday night trip to Felt. And if you are a cougar, prowl around afterward for leftovers.
