It wasn’t too long ago when the Yankees came to town for a five game series that was a make or break situation for the Sox. But in historic Yankee fashion, they threw us over the proverbial barrel and violated us. But now the tables are turned and it feels good to be on top. Well, in second place and first in line for the Wild Card. But still, it could be worse. We could be the Yankees. Last night, Liza Minnelli’s rendition of “New York, New York” was heard echoing through out the streets of the Bronx when the Yankees lost to the Red Sox, 11-3.

We don't want to write any more about Manny Ramirez, any more than you want to read it. He played, under thinly-veiled threats of suspension, and he was awful. Which makes him an official member in good standing of this weekend's Red Sox.
The feud between Red Sox ownership and Hank "Spaulding Smails" Steinbrenner is escalating. After Hank moaned, "Red Sox Nation? What a bunch of [expletive] that is.", John Henry responded by sending Hank an honorary RSN membership card.
If you haven't seen the finish of the Division II Championship between Barton and Winona State, check it out. It's absolutely astounding; Barton's Anthony Atkinson scores 10 points in 39 seconds to turn a sure loss into an unbelievable victory. (Barton is located in Wilson, North Carolina, just so you don't have to look it up.) It's hard to match that kind of a comeback, but the Celtics sure gave Toronto a chance last night....
In two words, David Pauley. Watching this kid walk out to the mound in Yankee Stadium, with only a single start under his belt, after suddenly getting the call-up from the double-A ranks - and pitching a veritable GEM against the Yankees?! How could anyone feel bad? Yes, they lost a close one, and that sucks. But when you think about the fact that only one fielding gaffe, or 6 further inches tacked onto a blast from Manny Ramirez, would have sent that game into extra innings, you can't feel bad.
Home for a very brief, and wet, four-game homestand, the Red Sox toed up with the Oakland Athletics before heading off on the last road trip of the season. The Sox dropped two of the games, both of which were painful. Game One showcased another unknown pitcher Boston had never seen before, Joe Blanton, and kept the Boston bats relatively silent and baffled. This continued the trend of seeing the Boston offense fall flat on its face whenever a new arm appears on the bump. Speaking of trends, Bostonist was hoping Curt Schilling's performance had turned the corner after the stellar job in NY a little over a week ago, thereby bucking his losing trend. Sorry, no such luck. Schilling gave up six runs on his way to loss number 8.
