As a 2nd time rider in the Pan Mass Challenge I was fortunate enough to make it to a select group of cyclists that rode with Lance Armstrong for many miles last Saturday. Armstrong's appearance in the PMC inspired everyone involved - we hope he comes back again.

One day before the 32nd Pan Mass Challenge, organizers are finalizing preparations for the 5,300 riders taking to the streets to raise money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Since 1980, the Pan Mass Challenge raised $303 million and hopes to add $34 million this year.
A cancer researcher for Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women's was killed on Tuesday morning after she was struck by a Paul Revere Co. bus in Boston. According to the Boston Police Department, 50-year-old Simin Arad was hit by the Longwood Medical-area shuttle at the intersection of Ruggles Street and Huntington Avenue around 9 a.m. She was pronounced dead at Brigham and Women's Hospital. This weekend the Pan Mass Challenge starts and over 5,000 cyclists will begin to ride for the goal of $31 million dollars in funding for cancer research at Dana Farber via the Jimmy Fund. Every rider has to raise at least $4,200 and you very well may know somebody riding who needs your help. Go to the Pan Mass Challenge web site and look for friends by searching for their names using the upper left corner search box.
Just because you're being encouraged to eat some yummy ice cream for two more days is no reason to assume drinking a carbonated beverage this summer will be encouraged no matter how good it is. Yes, you read that correctly. The 28th-annual Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl continues today and Thursday on City Hall Plaza from Noon to 8 p.m., and benefits the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Oh, and, the Boston Public Health Commission wants city dwellers to skip soda from June 21 to September 6.
Our beloved Track Girls are all over news of a coat check clash at the Cask'n Flagon (which they insist on calling the Cask 'n' Flagon, killing the copyeditor in us) Saturday night. A "fundraiser" for Dana Farber and Toys for Tots apparently turned into a real hellraiser when folks began demanding their coats from the collapsed kitchen coat check. (We wonder why you'd ever try to raise anything but beer glasses in the Cask, but no matter.) The always-classy Cask had improvised a coat check in the kitchen—exactly where fundraisers want their Burberry coats. ("Sorry, got some Kickers on the Kenneth Cole!")
