Just a week ago, Glen "Big Baby" Davis was sounding like your stereotypical professional athlete. He publically declared he'd go to any team willing to pay him to play. Fortunately, a week later, Davis and his apparent affinity for greenbacks will keep green on his back after he re-signed with the Boston Celtics for two years and $6.3 million. As Davis waited to sign a contract all summer, he said "I feel like I’ve grown up so much this whole summer - just being a professional and just being an adult." That's good because he grew up on the court in 2009 as he averaged 15.8 points and 5.6 rebounds in the playoffs as he replaced the injured Kevin Garnett. Danny Ainge basically said he wanted Davis back the whole time. "We like Glen more than anybody else likes Glen out there, and that’s ultimately what it boils down to." he said. The C's also announced the signing of Shelden Williams.

Sports Redux: Yes: Country For Old Men

Five of the six RBIs for the Red Sox came from David Ortiz and Jason Varitek? Is it 2003 already?!?

The last time the Red Sox played in Washington, D.C., Rogelio Moret got a complete game win on home runs by Joe Lahoud and Rico Petrocelli. A 32-year-old Carl Yastrzemski batted third and went 0-for-3. In other words, it was a long time ago. Back in the nation's capital, the Sox took a little time to assert themselves, but that's what they did, unloading on the hapless Nationals bullpen to run away with an 11-3 drubbing of the worst team in baseball.

Sports Redux: 6-0

Six games does not a season make. Even though some easily-swayed souls seem to think so. But regardless, the Red Sox are indisputably 6-0 against the Yankees so far in this young season, everyone's happy, and last night's game was about as good as it gets.

Danny Ainge, President and General Manager of the Celtics, has suffered a "mild" heart attack. WCVB reported Ainge was resting comfortably at Mass. General Hospital.

If you're going to have a triumphant homecoming, it helps when you're playing the Timberwolves. That's the lesson from last night, as Kevin Garnett played his first game back in his old arena, and clearly illustrated the difference between NBA Champs and a miserable team, as the Celtics cruised to a 95-78 blowout.

Paul Pierce has been here through it all. He slipped to #10 in the draft, becoming such an obvious pick that even Rick Pitino couldn't screw it up. He survived a stabbing. He and Antoine Walker mad-bombed their way into an improbable Eastern Finals appearance. He played through the agony and misery of the dismal mid-00's, always giving it all, always wearing his heart on his sleeve, always waiting for the day to come when all the pain would be worth it.

Guess it was too much to expect for James Posey to be a Celtic for life. The C's didn't want to commit to a fourth year, the Hornets did, and Posey's on his way to New Orleans. We'll miss you, BGJ (Big Game James). You were a fantastic sixth man and a defensive killer, you sparked some of the most critical rallies of the playoffs, and you were an integral part of the soul of this year's team. Who's going to provide the pregame hug/pep talk for all the starters, is what we want to know. Scalabrine?

Paul Pierce proved you can get stabbed early in life, then come back and win an NBA title, as long as you're commited to playing good defense. Maybe that crossed Danny Ainge's mind as he used the 30th pick in the NBA draft to pick J.R. Giddens of New Mexico.

So we were driving home from a party Saturday night, and heard on the radio that BC lost. Almost reflexively, we went, "Figures; as soon as we start paying attention to BC, they start losi....". Then we stopped and thought for a minute. Being reflexively negative and miserable just doesn't cut it when four of the five pro teams in town are either undefeated, in the championship game, or current World Champs. We know we're...

We hate to throw around the term "must-win" game. Game 4-7 of the 2004 ALCS; now those were must-win games. An August game against a non-divisional foe, when you're winning your own division, shouldn't qualify for the term. But last night sure felt like it. The Sox had dropped two straight to the Angels and the Yankees have been getting closer and closer in the rearview mirror. Furthermore, the Sox were taking the field sans...

Green Kool-Aid is our favorite flavor. (Yes, Green is a flavor.) We've been chugging the semi-sour variety of it for three years now, as Danny Ainge has told us that we'd been assembling key parts for a magical youth movement that would lead the Celtics back to glory. And we've sipped the ultra-sour variety for a month, trying to figure out what kind of a youth movement features a creaky 32-year-old shooter. But today, the...

As fans, we can afford to be capricious. That's why the Kevin Garnett-to-the-Celtics rumors, which seemed way too expensive back in June when we thought we were building for the future, have us a little giddier now. ESPN is reporting that the trade talks are starting to swirl around again; the deal would still involve Al Jefferson, Theo Ratliff (who is the Celtics MVP based on how much everyone lusts after his expiring contract), and...

We have a confession to make: we didn't pay a lot of attention to last night's Home Run Derby. Our tolerance for Chris Berman yelling "back back back" is low. Our desire to see kayakers crashing into each other in San Francisco Bay was present, but not overwhelming. And without Papi, what's the point? So congratulations to Anaheim's Vlad Guerrero, who won the Derby, despite the fact that no home runs landed in the huge...

Weren't we told that losing the Lottery wasn't a big deal? Since this was the most loaded draft in years, the story went, the Celtics would happily grab a good player with the #5 pick that would complement Paul Pierce and the burgeoning youth movement, and join in on the team that would compete soon and for years to come. Yeah; not so much. Like a rube on a carnival midway, Danny Ainge fell for...

The nailbiting, the pacing, the swearing, the chainsmoking - they all end tonight. Except maybe at Tommy Heinsohn's house. Tonight, we find out the next step in the Celtics' drive back to relevance. Will Danny Ainge swing one of the deals we've heard about? Will we be welcoming Kevin Garnett (no way), Shawn Marion (probably not), Dikembe Mutombo (possible) or Bill Telfair? Or will Danny stand pat and actually use his #5 pick to draft...

Harry Doyle and the Friends of the Feathered are breathing a sigh of relief this morning. After two losses at Fenway, Chief Wahoo's Tribe turned on the juice Wednesday night, pounding out a season-high 18 hits and smacking the Sox 8-4. Boston gave Daisuke a 2-0 lead after four innings, but Dice had been living dangerously all along, and Cleveland finally started to make him pay. And pay and pay. The Indians score two in...

So, the Celtics have been drooling over Kevin Durant, but, if they play badly enough, they might have another juicy prospect option - Glen "Big Baby" Davis of LSU is foregoing his senior year to join the pros. "Big Baby" is big indeed and sends visions of Shaq dancing in coaches heads. Danny Ainge may have put himself under house arrest to make sure he doesn't get too close to Davis' mother. Danny Ainge also...

It seemed as if the Celtics were riding high when they finally beat the San Antonio Spurs this weekend and gave the Dallas Mavericks a run for their money. St. Patrick's Day had been kind to the Celtics, especially with anything regarding the state of Texas.

Where's Manny? Gordon Edes reported last night that "enigmatic" slugger Manny Ramirez might be late for spring training because he'll be at a classic car auction in Atlantic City, New Jersey. And not with his sick mom as has been reported. His '67 Lincoln convertible is up for bid, so if you have $200,000 or so lying around, you can own a piece of automotive and Red Sox history.

In national sports news, there's a new star in heaven today. Kentucky Derby winner Barabaro lost his long battle with leg injuries and was put to sleep. We feel really sad losing an old friend - not so much the horse, but the easy go-to "I hear he's in stable condition" joke that served us so well, and now will have to be shelved until another thoroughbred is in trouble. Alas.

OK, so maybe that 4th Super Bowl is a bit further away than Bostonist originally thought. The Pats were, sad to say, trounced by division rival Miami Dolphins on Sunday, 21-0. This one was ugly folks, from the jump. Alas, Bostonist should have had a bit of a clue that this could be coming, with Tommy's record down in Miami (a place he is under .500, 2-4 career) and the injuries the Pats were...

Props go out to Terry Francona (a man who really doesn't receive enough credit for the job he does in Boston) for his handling of the Coco Crisp situation. Crisp returned, and was immediately re-inserted into the starting lineup as the center-fielder, and lead-off hitter. But, it looks like 7th or 8 slot is most effective, with Youkilis at the top, and Francona has leveraged this. The Sox also have some interesting options from...

Some random sports thoughts while pondering how Danny Ainge is still the GM of the Celtics after disassembling the 2002 Celtics team that was 2 wins away from a date in the NBA Finals...

The chances are high that Celtics fans will be surprised who the Men in Green choose in tomorrow night's draft. Last year's draft provided the C's with a trio of players that managed to contribute more than their fair share this past season, Al Jefferson being the most standout of the three. Many look at him as being a future NBA All-Star and the backbone of the Celtics future. Delonte West showed that in...

Bostonist will be the first to admit that we don't give our boys in Celtic Green the coverage they deserve. Sure, we mentioned Antoine's return mid-season, which has definitely put the Celts on the path to the playoffs. They have been battling the Indiana Pacers this past week and pushed it in last night's game in Indianapolis. With team owners (both Celtics legends back in the 80s: Larry Bird for the Pacers and Danny...
