With Boston facing the first official heat wave of 2010 this week, people will do anything to beat the heat, possibly even driving directly into the water. Okay, it wasn't on purpose and really isn't a laughing matter, but Jen Bean, of Danvers, and Stephen Ruest, of Ipswich, were in a Ford that ended up in the drink. • George Chmiel, 28, of Charlestown is competing in a seven-day, 150-mile foot race through the Sahara Desert. Chmiel reportedly said "It’s totally insane yet at the same time it makes a bunch of sense." Better him than Bostonist. Good luck, though. Really. [Boston Globe]
