If you’re a music nerd, the first rock 'n' roll show ever to be played at a just-restored 78-year-old theatre might be an occasion. If poppy nerd-rock maestros Deerhoof are headlining, it’s a full-blown holiday.

Can the newly restored Paramount rock? Well, Deerhoof will try to find out when play there on Sunday, October 10 at 7:30 p.m. Deerhoof formed in San Francisco in 1994 and now is signed with Kill Rock Stars. The band includes Satomi Matsuzaki, John Dieterich, Ed Rodriguez and Greg Saunier, and they're working on a new record. The band is hard to categorize so you'll have to see the show to experience them. Xiu Xiu and Father Murphy are also slated to perform. Tix: $18, available at www.artsemerson.org or 617-824-8000. Paramount Theatre, 559 Washington Street, Boston.
Bostonist has said plenty about Deerhoof before, so when we were unexpectedly handed tickets for their Middle East show on Thursday night, we said heck yes and grabbed our camera to catch Saunier, Matsuzaki, et al. (and kindred-spirited openers Flying and Experimental Dental School). The audience repeatedly dragged them back on stage, even after the please-go-home-now music came on. By the end of it all Bostonist was exhausted, sweaty, and happy, and we can't even imagine how the audience member in the giant hotdog costume felt.
