As Haiti reels from yesterday's devastating earthquake, Bostonist wants to highlight award-winning local organization Partners in Health (PiH), which has worked to provide medical services to the poorest Haitians for more than 20 years. The Harvard-affiliated non-profit is currently contributing emergency medical aid to some of the millions affected by the disaster. Founded in 1987, PiH oversees a 104-bed hospital, a dozen schools and eight clinic sites across Haiti's Central Plateau. According to their website, PiH is "the only provider of comprehensive primary care, regardless of ability to pay, for more than half a million impoverished people living in the mountainous Central Plateau." more ›

Somebody's in trouble. The trucker who took a turn too fast in Everett and caused the tanker explosion and fire that left 60 people homeless at last count had a lead foot. Casey Ross at the Herald writes: Chad LaFrance, 30, of Dover, N.H., has three speeding violations between 2000 and 2002 in New Hampshire, with one citation for going 83 mph in a 55-mph zone in 2001, according to a spokeswoman for N.H.... more ›
