Bostonist loves ourselves some opera, but sometimes theaters and and concert halls and opera houses all seem too obvious. In a city where you can get it with your oysters, or your popcorn, you should be able to get it with your beer: this is why Opera Boston Underground is inevitable. more ›

Bostonist has always had a thing for the slow cover: sometimes it takes a sparse, creeping rendition of a familiar song to make us keep pace with every word of the lyrics that used to walk on by. The Last Town Chorus's version of "Modern Love" is one of those, distilling David Bowie's deceptively bouncy pop to a stubborn, viscous anthem. (You can watch the video here, but we prefer the mp3 straight up.) more ›

Wait, wasn't that whole "Flash mob" trend supposed to encourage completely spontaneous events that prompted hordes of people to gather at random places and then suddenly go away? more ›

The sad news this weekend was that The Littlest Bar had finally been forced to close it's doors at the current location. After months and months of wait and see it appears the Abbey Group has finally begun the push for action to construct condo's on top of what was once the Littlest footprint. We've been heading every now and again since we heard about the initial threats of closure. Owner Paddy Grace told us in March that he was scoping out a new spot to open up a bar. It probably won't be the Littlest – but he'll bring the Irish charm (and he's already got street cred if you ask us). Paddy will retain his liquor license and hopes to transfer it to a new location on Devonshire. Both of the major papers are reporting on the loss of the littlest and the hopeful move. Perhaps there's something to be said when you can walk into the bar by yourself and it's already crowded. Grace hopes that a new establishment might be open by the end of the year. more ›

Elitist liberal that we are, Bostonist likes foreign movies (or "films," as one ought refer to such artsy fare). Sure, there are plenty of bad ones, as anyone who has watched Telemundo on a weekend afternoon knows, but for some reason, the ones that find their way to US theaters tend to be a little better than average. That goes double for films shown at the library, so we are very excited about the ongoing Iberoamerican Film Festival at the BPL. The festival, which began Tuesday and runs to the end of August, features movies from Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries every Tuesday and Wednesday evening in the Boston Public Library's air-conditioned Rabb Hall. more ›

If you're not too busy today on Good Friday (or celebrating your day off), KRS One is at the Middle East tonight. Considered one of the elder statesmen of hip-hop, KRS One is also known as a progressive activist and a vociferous critic of today's hip-hop. Luckily for us, he's stepping back into his original role as an amazing MC tonight, promoting his newest album, "Keep Right" with special guests 7L & Esoteric and Project Move joining him on stage. Bostonist missed the chance to see KRS in college and spent the night outside the club listening to him scream "Bring all the B-Boys up to the stage!" We won't make the same mistake twice. more ›
