Police are investigating four deaths in two separate incidents on Monday. A 14-month old was found unattended in a van today on Floyd Street at Blue Hill Avenue in Dorchester and died, after a 3:30 p.m. "cardiac medical emergency" was called in. James J. Auerbach, 68, and Thomas Frank Barnes, 38, both of Natick were arrested after postal inspectors in Shrewsbury and Natick and Framingham police found 14-15 pounds of marijuana. A drug-sniffing dog checked the package, which police say was sent in the mail from California, and police began surveillance outside the post office. Auerbah picked up the pot and brought it to the Natick apartment he shares with Barnes. Police arrested Auerbach there and found another six pounds of pot, $50,000 in cash and a gun. The drugs are reportedly worth about $100,00. Both men are charged with possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute and conspiracy.Auerbach faces additional weapons charges and has prior convictions. The four-year old boy shot at Harambee Park in Dorchester on Monday night was hit by a stray bullet fired in a gang-related shooting, police said. There were reports of multiple gunshots fired before several young men were seen fleeing towards Blue Hill Avenue. This contradicts initial police reports of shooters on motorbikes. Two men were shot and killed in Boston this weekend in two seperate incidents. On Saturday night, a man was shot near Eustis and Dearborn streets in Roxbury. He was pronounced dead at Boston Medical Center. On Sunday, a second man was shot in Dorchester near the intersection of East Cottage and Sumner streets. Police are investigating both shootings. A call for a domestic dispute turned into a shootout near 22 Dunbar Street in Dorchester on Tuesday morning. A Boston police officer who responded to a domestic call was shot in the leg. He returned fire and wounded two suspects, a man and a woman, Commissioner Edward Davis said. The officer was treated at Brigham and Women's Hospital. The man was in critical condition at Boston Medical Center and the woman's injuries were not life-threatening as she was at Beth Israel-Deaconess. The State Police arrested Frank. S. Ceccaroni, 47, of Holliston, today for drunk driving after a high speed chase on I-93 today. Ceccaroni reportedly, according to the Globe, has five previous operating under the influence arrests. Police saw Ceccaroni swerving on I-93 in an Infiniti that been reported stolen and bore plates registered to a Dodge Caravan. He collided with a tractor-trailer before being arrested. Ceccaroni faces charges for drunk driving, failure to stop for police and allegedly driving a stolen car. [Globe] more ›

Michael Varano, 52, of Bridgewater was arrested, for robbing the St. Thomas Aquinas parish center in Bridgewater, for the second time in three months for breaking and entering and larceny on Friday. His 11-year old son was with him during the robberies. Varano was arraigned on April 6 on 49 charges after breaking into 16 homes. During one heist, he brought his 4-year old daughter with him. A Hingham man faces multiple charges, including two counts of aggravated assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, trespassing, and a civil rights violation with injury, after allegedly attacking two people in Waltham last week. Timothy A. Schmitt, 22, of Hingham and Bentley University pleaded not guilty and was held on $2,000 cash bail. Schmitt allegedly attacked a pregnant woman and a deaf black man, and used racial slurs toward them. The man suffered a broken skull bone. Schmitt’s mother said her son denied being the instigator and denied that the incident was "racially motivated." He was suspended from Bentley University. [Waltham Patch], [WCVB] more ›

Police found a gun in a box a Cheerios while investigating a double shooting in Dorchester on Sunday night. Offiers reportedly heard gunshots and found two wounded people at 530 Washington Street after the shots. Neither victim had life threatening injuries. A witness was assaulted when trying to report the shootings. Police arrested two Dorchester men at 11 Wheatland Avenue men for assault and battery and intimidation of a witness. A man wearing a SpongeBob SquarePants winter hat was arrested yesterday after allegedly exposing himself to a crowd of 40 or so people at the Ashmont T stop. He first mooned the passengers and then "winked and smiled" at the crowd, and then pulled his pants down completely, spun around and fondled himself. The Dorchester man fled after a passenger threatened to take his picture. He was charged with open and gross lewdness, released, and ordered to visit the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital. Four children were sent to the hospital after a porch collapsed at a Dorchester triple decker home at 21 Crowell Street on Saturday. The kids were reportedly making a snowman at the time. All four kids were treated and released last night. Lucia Audate, the mother of two kids involved, thought the weight of the snow on the porch caused the collapse. She's relieved the kids are safe. Massachusetts State Police trooper Timothy J. Walsh, 41, of Dorchester faces multiple charges, including operating under the influence of alcohol and illegal discharge of a firearm, after allegedly driving drunk on South Munroe Terrace, colliding with parked cars, pointing a gun at an off-duty Boston police officer, and shooting into his living room ceiling. (This is not what "locked and loaded" means.) According to media reports, Walsh received the Army Commendation Medal for valor while serving in Afghanistan in 2009.
