Onyango Obama, President Obama's uncle, pleaded not guilty in Framingham District Court last week to drunk driving and other charges after his arrest on Wednesday. Obama was ordered deported in 1992 and ignored the order. He had a Massachusetts driver's license and a Social Security number, and was a long-time employee at a liquor store in Framingham. He's being held at the Plymouth County House of Correction. The president's aunt Zeituni Onyango was granted asylum to avoid deportation in 2010. [Globe] more ›

Nathaniel Fujita pleaded not guilty to killing ex-girlfriend Lauren Astley, 18, of Wayland in Middlesex Superior Court Today. Fujita allegedly battered Astley, stabbed her at least three times, and choked her so badly she had multiple hemorrhages. Fujita then dumped her body into a marsh off Water Row Road in Wayland. After leaving her dead body, Fujita reportedly called his parents after disposing of Astley in order to plan a family movie-watching night. Prosecutor Lisa McGovern gave a blunt description of the crime: "She decided she should reach out to him and make sure he was doing OK. The defendant reciprocated that act of friendship by killing her." [Herald] more ›

Albert Arroyo, 49, of Roslindale, the former firefighter who competed as a bodybuilder while claiming disability, was acquitted on two counts of mail fraud on Sunday in U.S. District Court. Arroyo was allegedly injured in 2008 after falling down a flight of stairs. He began exercising and bodybuilding after suffering a back injury in 2000. US Attorney Carmen Ortiz described the acquittal as a “disappointment.” [Herald] more ›

A Chelmsford man pleaded not guilty to drunk driving and motor vehicle homicide charges and was released on personal recognizance today in Lowell District Court after he allegedly ran over and killed his wife outside of their home on Wednesday. Harry Conover, Jr., 73, and Sandra Conover, 73, allegedly argued prior to him getting into his car to leave their home. His wife reportedly followed him to his car and somehow was run over as he tried to drive away. A probable cause hearing is set for September 1. [Globe] more ›

Boston Police arrested a 26 year-old male from Arlington for operating under the influence at approximately 12:40 a.m. on Sunday. Officers observed a Honda Civic colliding with a taxi cab near Arlington Street and Columbus Ave and approached both operators to help. Neither driver needed medical attention. Officers smelled alcohol on the driver of the Honda and observed his "speech was slurred, balance compromised and eyes glassy." He admitted havng two beers and failed a field sobriety test. Joseph F. Limone, 60, of Winthrop, was stopped for his eighth drunk driving arrest Tuesday in Revere. He pleaded not guilty on Wednesday at Chelsea District Court, but was held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing. As Limone hasn't had a valid driver's license since 1985, he is also charged with operating on a revoked license and giving a fake name to police. He has drunk driving in 1983, 1984, 1987, 1996, 2001, and 2007. Limone was allegedly tailgating another car and yelling at the driver. [Globe] more ›

Two men face charges after a Quincy woman was shot by a gun fired from an apartment on the floor above her. Joshua Perry, 26, fired the gun and pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, and firing a gun within 500 feet of a dwelling. The gun belongs to Christopher King, who will likely be summoned to court for improper storage of a large-capacity firearm. The victim was released from Boston Medical Center. The State Police arrested Frank. S. Ceccaroni, 47, of Holliston, today for drunk driving after a high speed chase on I-93 today. Ceccaroni reportedly, according to the Globe, has five previous operating under the influence arrests. Police saw Ceccaroni swerving on I-93 in an Infiniti that been reported stolen and bore plates registered to a Dodge Caravan. He collided with a tractor-trailer before being arrested. Ceccaroni faces charges for drunk driving, failure to stop for police and allegedly driving a stolen car. [Globe] more ›

State Police arrested a man for allegedly slapping a flight attendant on a JetBlue flight from West Palm Beach (FL) to Logan Airport. The Globe reported Bryan Garnett, 48, from Utica, N.Y., will be charged with interfering with a flight crew and assault and battery for slapping a male flight attendant. Over 30 cars were vandalized in Braintree on Saturday and Sunday by suspects shooting pellet or BB guns from a car. The windows in the cars were shot out and the cars were spread around in East Braintree, North Braintree, Braintree Highlands, and other parts of town. Police said the pellet guns are very quiet. In addition to the DUI charge, Lowe faces reckless driving and making an improper lane change. An attorney for 17-year-old Sharon Chanon Velazquez has apparently agreed to a plea deal in the Phoebe Prince bullying case. A deal with the Northwestern District Attorney will be presented to a Franklin-Hampshire Juvenile Court judge next week.Velazquez pleaded not guilty to criminal harassment and stalking. Two teenage girls have now died as a result of Friday's early morning one-car crash on the McGrath Highway in Somerville. The State police said a 17-year-old from Somerville died on Saturday at Massachusetts General Hospital. A 16-year old girl from Everett died at the scene of the accident. more ›

Massachusetts State Trooper Michael Isom was hit by an alleged drunken driver on Friday morning while working a highway detail on I-93 in Randolph. Isom is 41 and was sent to Boston Medical Center with head and back injuries. Police arrested Leslie Minasian, 47, of East Bridgewater and will be charged with her second drunk driving offense. David McCall, 72, of Wakefield was sent for a mental evaluation after facing charges that he shot and killed his wife at their home. MCall called 911 himself to report an alleged murder-suicide. Wayne Leduc of Milton entered a not guilty plea to multiple charges, including drunken driving, today Quincy District Court and was held on $1,500 cash bail. Leduc was arrested on Sunday for allegedly hitting a state trooper on I-93. The trooper was identified as Brian Berry, 43. He was treated at Boston Medical Center and already released. State police arrested Wayne Leduc, 40, of Milton for drunk driving after he collided with a parked cruiser and a trooper conducting a vehicle stop on I-93 early Sunday morning in Quincy. The trooper is being treated at Boston Medical Center with leg injuries. Leduc is charged with operating under the influence, operating to endanger, failure to move over for an emergency vehicle and a marked lanes violation. Trooper Edward Treseler was injured Wednesday morning in Framingham by a car that crossed the median. In the past 15 months, the State Police said 12 troopers have been injured in crashes involving suspected impaired driving, erratic driving, or speeding. All charges alleged until proven under law. Driving yourself to your fourth drunk driving arraignment is probably a bad idea. But, that's exactly what a Revere man allegedly did today. WHDH reported a fourth arrest results in an automatic suspension of his license. The suspect was arrested on Saturday after recording a .18 on a breathalyzer test, which is twice the legal limit. Three men, one armed, allegedly robbed a D'Angelo's sandwich shop on Route 28 in Randolph and were arrested after fleeing the scene. Police found the suspects in a car less a a quarter mile away from the scene and the men were changing from clothes that matched the robbers clothes. Police found three blue sweatshirts, a black bag with money, a ski mask, plastic flex cuffs, and a BB gun. They were arrested and charged then with armed robbery. A 24-year old Holbrook man will be arraigned Monday in Dorchester District Court for drunk driving and leaving the scene of an accident, and other charges after crashing his car this morning on I-93 in Dorchester and leaving his passenger hospitalized. A 37-year old Norwell woman faces her third drunk driving offense after being arrested on Saturday. Police stopped her and reported she smelled of alcohol, wasn't wearing pants and had her four-month-old baby in the car. Police recovered multiple containers of alcohol from the car. Waltham Police are looking for a 42-year-old man who allegedly attacked his father with an ax today. Police responded to a domestic disturbance call and found a 76-year-old man who had been struck in the back and arm with an ax. Appoximately 40 guns were stolen from a vault in the basement of a two-family home in Lowell. The weapons included guns and rifles of various calibers, most of which were registered to the homeowner. Donna Sclamo, 51, of Worcester pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to driving drunk and crashing into the unmarked SUV driven by Massachusetts State Police commander Col. Marian J. McGovern in Shrewsbury. Sclamo is charged with her fifth operating under the influence offense and driving with a suspended license. Her bail was set at $10,000 cash.
