The Gloucester woman who struck the car that Sandra Bullock and Jesse James were riding in over the weekend is still feeling her 15 minutes of infamy. 64-year-old Lucile P. Gatchell pled not guilty to driving under the influence today in Gloucester District Court. She will return to court June 6.

--Revere police arrived to a crime scene today at 3:15 p.m. They reported a fatal stabbing and a non-fatal shooting. There aren't many details available at this point, but a source tells the Herald that the victim was attacked by her son. [Boston Herald]

--A 9-year-old was injured in a hit-and-run in Dorchester overnight. [WBZ]

--A man was shot yesterday afternoon on Dorchester Avenue in what the Herald describes as an "ambush from behind." The 20-year-old victim was taken to the hospital but later died from his wounds. [BPD News, Boston Herald]

--Framingham Police had to deal with a perp so drunk and unruly on Sunday that they had to hold his head still when they snapped him for his mugshot. According to the MetroWest Daily News, Sandro Romero's wild night started when police happened upon Romero's friends, who were trying to take him home. Leeland Eisenberg has been named as the man who took staffers hostage yesterday at Hillary Clinton's campaign headquarters in Rochester, NH. He was already a man on the edge when he took the hostages. According to an AP report, his wife was divorcing him, and he was "due in court with her for a domestic violence hearing." He had a record for drunk driving and domestic violence, and he was involved in an odd incident...

--On Saturday morning, a construction worker in Watertown went on a crazy trip to Brookline. The worker, 24-year-old Kevin Lasquade, happened to be drunk at the time. According to WHDH, Lasquade got noticed when "he allegedly hit a parked car on Beacon Street in Brookline." He also took the backhoe into a Stop & Shop lot and almost did some damage there. For once, Governor Romney has a squabble with the legislature that appears not to be motivated by presidential posturing: Yesterday he proposed amendments to "Melanie's Law," the much-discussed legislation that might (or might not) impose stiffer sentences for repeat drunk drivers and for people who refuse to take a breathalyzer test. One central issue underlying what has become a major debate (not just between Mitt and lawmakers, but among the the lawmakers themselves) is a provision that would allow prosecutors to prove that a person is a repeat offender by introducing court records, instead of calling a police officer or records clerk to testify that the person was convicted before. Proponents say this is just a common-sense way to remove a needless, cumbersome procedural step that lets repeat offenders get off easy when their prior convictions are really old. Opponents (some of whom, the proponents hasten to point out, are lawyers who defend drunk drivers) say it might be unconstitutional. So what gives?
