Boston Blotter: Man Stabbed Repeatedly in Harvard Square

-- A Somerville man was stabbed repeatedly outside of the CVS on JFK Street in Harvard Square early Saturday morning before taking a cab to the emergency room. The man described three suspects to police, who have released little information about the incident. [Cambridge Chronicle]

We're big fans of Honk! Festival, Davis Square's annual convergence of lefty, adult marching bands, but we feel like Boston has gotten screwed in years past. HonkFest has been confined to Somerville and Cambridge, forcing the rest of us to cross the river to see the spectacle. No longer.

Boston Blotter: Graffiti Artist Gets 6 Months; Shoot-out in Dorchester

-- Danielle Bremner, who writes graffiti as "UTAH," was sentenced to six months in prison by Boston Municipal Court after she pleaded guilty to tagging buildings in the Back Bay and trains in an MBTA yard in East Boston. Bremner, who lives in New York, had been a fugitive from prosecution for more than a year when she was arrested in Chicago in August 2008. She has also been convicted of vandalism charges in New York. [Herald]

Boston Blotter: Drugs, Assault, and a Fight

-- A drug dealer from Providence was arrested in Somerville last Thursday. The suspect had at least 53 grams of crack cocaine he tried to flush down the toilet. Cops also allegedly found additional drugs hidden in the suspect's car. Somerville Police tried to “ward off the demons of law enforcement” by using religious trinkets to protect his secret drug hiding place. He was charged with breaking and entering, trafficking in heroin, morphine or opium, trafficking in cocaine and drug violation near a school zone or park. [Somerville Journal]

Boston Blotter: Work, Drugs, a Boat and Arson

-- Boston Police arrested an 18-year old East Boston man on Friday after he kicked and punched officers during a disturbance at his grandparents' house. The grandparents told police their grandson was destroying their house because they were making him go to work and he didn’t want to. He was locked in his room and was aggressive towards the officers once he opened his door. His fists were clinched and he said "I’m not going anywhere." He was charged with assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest. [BPDNews.com]

Boston Blotter: 2nd Arrest in Harvard Shooting; Man Bites Cop

-- Police have made a second arrest in connection with the May 18 shooting of Justin Cosby outside of a Harvard dorm. Blayn Jiggetts, a 19-year-old New Yorker, was arrested in Harlem yesterday just before midnight. Jiggetts joins Jabrai Jordan Copney, also of New York, in prison for the crime, which police say was a "botched 'drug rip'" that left Cosby dead from a gunshot to the gut and $1,000 cash and a bag of marijuana laying nearby. Police still seek a third suspect. [Globe]

Boston Blotter: Arson <em>Not</em> Just a JP Thing, Dukin' it out at Dunkin' Donuts

  • It's unrelated to the string of possible arson attacks that have lit up Jamaica Plain, but Boston fire officials have declared that the Sunday morning fire that destroyed the New Fellowship Baptist Church in Dorchester was deliberately set. Globe
  • A drunk 44-year-old attacked his fellow patrons at an East Boston Dunkin' Donuts with a studded belt last night, police say. [BPDNews]
  • Kimberly Carmella Savini, a 30-year-old Somerville woman, was arraigned today for the December, 2008 stabbing murder of her boyfriend, 42-year-old Arnaldo Amado. Savini's attorney Maria Curtatone (Mayor Joe's sister) has claimed that Amado had been drunkenly assaulting Savini when the alleged stabbing took place. [Somerville Journal]

Boston Blotter: Brockton Apartment Shootout Kills One

-- A man went on a daytime shooting spree in a Brockton apartment house this afternoon that killed one and left two in the hospital. The gunman fled the scene in his car after police responded to the shootings and engaged cops in a high-velocity shoot-out. The incident came to a close when the gunman's car collided with that of a passerby, ending the getaway and sending the suspect to the hospital. Despite close calls, no police were reported injured. Tylenol, the drug, will offer free cab rides in the City of Boston from November 17 to November 23, leaving from various convenient CVS locations. It's a promotion for Tylenol's new creepily named product, Warming Liquids. The catch? The rides are only available from noon to 8 p.m., an inconvenience that prompted the following exchange at Bostonist HQ:

-- Munir Alani, a 26-year-old Syrian national, was denied bail in his federal trial on charges that he tried to bring guns with him on a trip from Boston to Lebanon. Authorities claim that he had 11 guns in his luggage and that he intended to sell them in Syria. [Herald]

-- Police have identified the 19-year-old man who was stabbed to death on Border St. in East Boston. Rafael Sandoval, a Chelsea man, died from a single stab wound early Sunday morning. No arrests have been made in the apparent murder, but Boston police report that eyewitnesses reported a dark-colored four-door sedan fleeing the scene. [BPDNews]

-- Early Sunday morning, police arrested a man in connection with a quadruple stabbing in the North End. The four teenage victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries. [BPDNews]

-- A man suspected of being homeless was found stabbed to death in a small Dorchester park this morning. [Globe]

-- An undercover Boston police officer shot an 18-year-old suspected drug dealer during a sting operation last night. Ariel Lara Aguasiva of Jamaica Plain was riding in the passenger seat of a car where an alleged heroin deal went down. When stopped by a marked police car, Aguasiva turned violent, according to police, and was subdued after a gunshot to his chest. He was treated and released by Massachusetts General Hospital. Aguasiva and Jorge Luis Ortiz Lara, 22, of Palmer, face a host of charges related to the incident. [BPDNews]

-- Late last night, Boston police found a man shot near Washington Street in Jamaica Plain. The 19-year-old was rushed to Brigham and Women's, where he remains in critical condition. No arrests have been made, and police have not suggested a motive in the shooting. [BPDNews]

-- Wellesley might be the hottest new place to encounter a prostitute, but Brighton's brothels continue to service customers who take the Green Line or the 57 bus. Boston police are tackling online sex rings as a part of "Operation Rubout," an effort to wipe out prostitution in Allston and Brighton that began in 2005. The newest thing in the neighborhood? The emerging market in transexual encounters. There are some things you still can't get in the suburbs. [Herald]

Star Simpson, the 20-year-old MIT student who was arrested last September for wearing a sweatshirt adorned with an LED panel to Logan Airport, will not receive jail time. East Boston District Judge Paul Mahoney dismissed the charge of possession of a hoax device, a felony, and assigned Simpson to pre-trial probation for the charge of disorderly conduct, reports the Herald.

Being as it's Cinco de Mayo, everyone in the city is going to be trying to grab some Mexican food and cervezas tonight. Most of the options are less than ideal, however. For truly great and authentic Mexican (no beer yet, though, but they're working on it), head to Angela's Cafe in East Boston.

The Commonwealth's Speaker of the House Sal DiMasi has long been seen as the biggest obstacle in the way of Governor Deval Patrick's plan to build three luxury casinos in the Bay State. DiMasi lived up to that reputation yesterday by delivering a blistering attack against the governor's projections for how many jobs the initiative would create.

--Leading off with a happy story: officers in East Boston responded to a car where a woman was in labor. After her water broke in their presence, the police helped deliver the baby, put the baby in a blanket, checked that the baby was breathing properly, and then made sure the family arrived safely at Mass General Hospital. -- Four Salem High School students have pleaded not guilty to charges that they raped a teen girl in a Lynn home late Friday night. The four boys, three 17 year-olds and one 18 year-old, were arraigned Tuesday on charges of aggravated rape. The alleged victim reported the incident to police Saturday morning. [Globe; Herald]

--The biggest crime at the gas station is usually related to the price of petroleum. But police in the South End found two men fighting yesterday at a Mobil after an alleged carjacking. The victim claims that his car was stolen when he went to pay for his gas. After chasing the alleged suspect, he was punched by the man and the two engaged in fisticuffs until the BPD arrived. --Dr. Judah Folkman, who found a new way of fighting cancer by cutting off blood supply to tumors, died yesterday. [Boston Globe]

Update: The Glock-toter will be arraigned this morning in East Boston District Court. The DA's Office said his case was "admittedly banal" compared to all the other cases going on.
