John Kerry apparently wanted to be Secretary of State for President Barack Obama. Hillary Clinton got the job, and Kerry had to settle for being chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Nine months into Obama's term, Kerry is acting like the country's top diplomat anyway. He dashed off to Afghanistan to talk policy and elections with Afghan President Hamid Karzai. The new John Kerry, with an even higher profile, has earned the scrutiny of the funny newspeople like Jon Stewart. Last night, Stewart said Kerry met with Karzai in order to use "water boring" to get him into agree to a run-off election. Kerry is seen discussing Karzai in his usually glacial speaking style. more ›

Massachusetts began to say goodbye to Senator Edward M. Kennedy early Thursday afternoon. Kennedy left his home in Hyannis Port on Thursday, carried in a flag-draped casket to lead a motorcade that traveled from Cape Cod to Boston, wound through the city and finally reached the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum in Dorchester shortly before 5 pm. more ›

Boston.com is blank but for a Ted Kennedy slide show. We don't have the technology or file photos to manage that, but we do have a kind word for the senator, who died from the brain tumor that he has been fighting for months. Rest in peace, Edward M. Kennedy. Massachusetts will never have another one like you. Update: Our sister site Gothamist has a fancy Kennedy slideshow. more ›

This week, the Civil Society Institute released survey results that showed 82 percent of people in Massachusetts approved of Cape Wind, which would install wind turbines in Nantucket Sound. The news came out just as Cape Wind supporters were pushing for US Rep Ed "Biz" Markey to publicly back the project. {They are not lobbying Senator Ted Kennedy, who, in a fit of NIMBYism, has opposed the project from the get-go because Nantucket Sound is his backyard.) more ›

Ted Kennedy catches a lot of crap just being himself. Ted-Kennedy-As-Orator is probably Jon Stewart's second-favorite impression after the George W. Bush chuckle. Throw in the alleged drinky-drinky, and Ted Kennedy makes for quite the media spectacle. Since he announced his endorsement of presidential aspirant Barack Obama, the Peanut Gallery has renewed its love affair with poking fun at Teddy. But Glenn Beck at Headline News hurt our brains when he started imagining our Senator in the buff. more ›

Hillary Clinton has a strong chance of becoming president, if it weren't for the continued momentum of Barack Obama. However, no matter how much hope and Oprah Obama ladles on the land, Clinton will always have one strong advantage--former president Bill Clinton. Is that entirely fair? more ›

Both Massachusetts senators, John Kerry and Ted Kennedy, have close experience with presidential campaigns, so who can blame them for waiting a little bit to make an endorsement? Kerry's dominance in the last go-round came as a surprise after the Dean campaign collapsed in Iowa. The field of Democrats is deep this year, and, like Deval Patrick, our Senators have to be cautious about making endorsements since the Clintons are such a powerful force. more ›

According to the AP, he reportedly will receive money along the lines of $8 or $9 million, similar to what Hillary Clinton and Tony Blair got for their memoirs. NYT is saying it will be $8 million. As if he needs the money. The high advance suggests that Kennedy might actually talk about the juicy stuff--drinking, Joan, Chappaquiddick... more ›
