In the annals of mixology, one of Boston's best-known contributions to the recipe books is our very own traditional beverage of traditional election fraud: the Ward Eight. Created by some clever bartender at Locke-Ober, it was used to toast the victory of Martin Lomasney, a Democrat known as the "Boston Mahatma," in his 1898 state senate run, the night before the election. This Bostonist is planning to make a massive batch of Ward Eights for......

Bostonist wholeheartedly believes in bribing rewarding our readers for participation in the democratic process, so here’s a list of food & drink freebies available to voters today: Starbucks is giving out a free 12 oz (or “tall” in ‘bucks parlance) cup of coffee when you show them your “I voted!” sticker. No sticker? Just tell them you voted; they promise to believe you. (FYI, you know there’s a special hell reserved for people who......

In some truly sad news for local comedy and the arts, Jimmy Tingle has decided to close Jimmy Tingle's Off Broadway Theater in Davis Square. The theater will close when the lease expires at the end of this month. Jimmy Tingle's Off Broadway always brought in some incredible artists that you wouldn't see anywhere else, and, to Bostonist's delight, the legendary Mort Sahl did a few nights there recently. The theater looked suspiciously like a......

--Cookie Monster would be very, very sad. An employee of the Bon Appetit restaurant inside Lesley University lost his mind on Saturday morning and told his boss exactly how he felt. Jose Arevalo's boss told him to plate some cookies. He didn't feel like plating any damn cookies, so he said he "wasn't listening to her because she was a woman," shoved her, squeezed her neck, and threw her into the door of the walk-in......

After the painfully boring debates which marked the 2004 Presidential campaign, the nation became aware that John Kerry wasn't the most interesting of orators - at times even coming off as a little pompous. Massachusetts voters have known this for years. Occasionally Kerry will deliver a joke, well crafted for his use by writers, and it will work. National and international attention is being given to one of those instances when that didn't work out......

Why are Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling and his wife, Shonda, going on a publicity rampage? On Monday, Shonda Schilling did a cameo as an "ordinary citizen" when she asked a question during the gubernatorial candidate debate. The Globe referred to her as a "golden-haired society-page star." Turns out that Mrs. Schilling really was playing a part since, according to the Phoenix, she's not even registered to vote in the state of Massachusetts. Shonda wasn't......

The $3.5 million dollar question on the ballot this November is if supermarkets will be allowed to sell wine in their stores. Currently weird restrictions remain for grocery stores selling wines. Chains are only allowed to sell wine in no more than three their stores. For instance, Trader Joe's is only allowed to sell wine in their Brookline, Cambridge, and Boston locations. It forces Back Bay 'Joe consumers to take a ride on the Green......
