While Harvard's Morris Gray Lecture series has been nearly cursed in the past few years, E.L. Doctorow's lecture should go off without a hitch tonight. He's giving a free lecture at the Lamont Forum Room in Lamont Library at 6PM. You should go because Doctorow is a literary lion with the arguably canonical Ragtime to his credit. Ragtime (also a movie and a Broadway play) is a stunner--combining the stories of real-life historical figures like Freud, Emma Goldman, and Houdini along with American families who are making their way. If you haven't read it, you should. And do seize upon the opportunity to see Doctorow read--it's been a bad couple of years for our giants (Bellow, Miller) and Doctorow deserves your respect.
