A woman who allegedly punched her infant son on the Route 23 bus yesterday afternoon was confronted by passengers after leaving the bus in Roxbury at the intersection of Warren and Brunswick streets and held there until police arrived. The mother, identified as Erica Ryan in the Globe, reportedly hit "her child in the mouth with a closed fist" and yelled "Little bastard, you got one more chance." Police said he had dried blood around his mouth and had been crying. She was charged with domestic abuse. [Globe] more ›

Fifty-Four firefighters were suspended by the Boston Fire Department for faking medical training certifications. Over 200 EMTs were implicated in the scandal that involved two instructors accused in 2010. Twenty firefighters received 45-day suspensions without pay for twice accepting false certifications. The firefighters who once faked certifications got suspended for 15 days without pay. Each firefighter must also repay the $1,000 course stipend. The BFD investigated for a year. [Globe] more ›

-- A cab driver from Waltham allegedly refused to let a female passenger out of a cab Saturday morning and is now charged with kidnapping, operating to endanger and failure to stop for a police officer. The passenger called 911 and said "Please help me. I am in a taxi that will not let me out of the taxi in Quincy." The driver, Osei Kwame, said the passengers, one managed to exit the cab before driving off with the female passenger, refused to pay the fare. The driver was arraigned at Quincy District Court and released on $750 bail. [WCVB] more ›

    An intoxicated Boston EMT currently on injured leave was arrested after shooting two men in Abington on Sunday. After the shooting, the suspect tried to treat the victims, who are reportedly brothers. The suspect has been with Boston EMS since 2002. According to Abington Police, the three men attended two parties at the same time, one of which was a benefit for a deceased EMS worker who used to work with the shooter and was the brother of the victims. The suspect will be arraigned today in Brockton District Court on multiple charges. [Boston Herald, WCVB] All charges alleged until proven under law. more ›
