[Fack Youk] -- Dorchester criminals have secret identities like "Crackman" and "The Urinator." [C-11 Report]
Eugene Mirman Defines Alternative Comedy at AltCom 2009 from Tom Lewis on Vimeo.
In our post on this week's AltCom in Somerville, which starts tonight at the Somerville Theatre, we did note that there would be "many more" performers than we listed.
Agganis Arena was packed last Friday as 20- and 30-somethings with Bud Lights or Harpoon IPAs in hand found their places in the venue. All were eagerly anticipating a performance by the New Zealand musical duo Flight of the Conchords, who perform live as a band and also have a hit TV show about trying to make it performing live as a band. Eugene Mirman is a comedian. He has done several wonderful things. This coming Wednesday—Feb. 25th, for calendar nerds—at 7PM, he will be reading from his new self-help book The Will to Whatevs at the Brookline Booksmith.
9:00 p.m., $8 for 21+ / $11 for 18+
Bostonist would like to congratulate Heather for winning our contest for two free tickets to the Revenge of the Book Eaters show at the Berklee Performance Center.
Revenge of the Book Eaters will take place on Wednesday, September 26th, at the Berklee Performance Center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. For ticket info, visit 826 Boston's website.
Londonist are starting to think their city is getting just a little bit too expensive, when even Christian Slater can't afford to go out there. And there's no escaping, as local singer Lily Allen discovered when she was barred entry to the US. The British mapping agency caused further bad karma, by blocking a 3-D representation of London in Google Earth. But the smiles returned to Londonist's faces as they interviewed Baroness von Reichardt,...
Ok – it's a hard state to spell. What if I my true god was…a sandwich? Eugene Mirman, one of Bostonist's favorite comedians, and a former Cambridge resident, comes back to the Bay State and interviews schmucks homeless tourists people in hopes of getting to better know Massachusetts. Watch the video posted to Super Deluxe as Mirman taunts Harvard students, orders (based on market price) about $100 worth of food at Summer Shack, wonders who would win a battle royale between the Celtics and the Bruins, and, well, reads a poem to Walden Pond.
Eugene Mirman and Bobby Tisdale have been running a well received comedy show in New York for a bit called Invite Them Up. It's a venue for comedians to test a bit of new material on stage. The "super deluxe holiday show" (language from their website) will be making the on the road appearance at the Paradise Rock Club tonight at 8 pm. Along with Mirman and Tisdale, Jon Benjamin, AD Miles, and David Cross will share the bill.
Because you're the only one in the office today and you've got the music cranked up as it flows from your computer – but you just want a little bit something different. Because last comic standing isn't going to be on tomorrow night (NBC shows the Macy's fireworks from NYC) and you're itching for some comedy. Because you can't stand the fact the Eugene Mirman calls New York home and not Cambridge. Because you're still pissed that they cancelled Home Movies (and Brendan Small doesn't live in Cambridge with Mirman anymore). Because you love Tim McIntire and need a half hour of his humor to make it until you duck out of the office at 4:25 when no one will notice – especially now that Tim called a hiatus for the month of July. Today's video is a mini-documentary filmed circa 2000 and it contains a half hour of performances most of which were filmed at the Comedy Studio in Harvard Square. Lots of comedians make cameos – and a couple of Brookline comedy class participants show off their "final projects."
LAist has so much fun this week! They go to E3, where they overhear the timeless remark "Man, this is where nerdy girls get laid." Is that a promise? They also give us this week's best CDs and make us realize that LA is the best place to use Zillow.
We've been hooked ever since and are excited to see what Barry and Mirman have in store for us at their stop in Boston. Bostonist checked out each comedian's website to get warmed up for the show. Barry has a nice assortment of random receipts from his past, showing his affinity to buy the "Mortgages for Dummies" book with a gift card (irony at its best); Mirman has a hilarious (yet somewhat frightening) feature on his site: "The Marvelous Crooning Child", with a baby photo that sings "Hey Mickey" and "Like a Virgin."
Do you want to meet The Daily Show's Rob Corddry? (Like Bostonist and Abigal Adams, a native of Weymouth, MA!) Because he's going to be at The Somerville Theater on Friday night along with Brant Serensen, Darren Goldberg, and the ever-funny DJ Hazard promoting their festival film Blackballed: The Bobby Dukes Story. It features Upright Citizens Brigade members and paintball. That's just one of the options that you, gentle reader, have at the Independent Film...
