HEARTHROB Tuesday, December 4th Middlesex Lounge 315 Massachusetts Ave. Cambridge, MA 9pm / 21+ / FREE w/ special guests: Peppermint Twinz (Christopher Wade + Initiales A.A.) It's surprising that a dance night like Hearthrob could be so successful considering it has hardly more than a MySpace page and does little to no promotion. The reigning master of such success is still word-of-mouth, and that is something that the three New England-based DJs have built...

No Christmas shopping today. No Thanksgiving shopping, either. Get your remote control warmed up and tell the family they're on their own for dinner, because there's a lot of sports to be watchin' today. The fun starts at 2:00, when the Revolution try to get from "happy to be in the championship game", which is old hat, to actually winning the thing. They're matched up against Houston for all the marbles again; goalie Matt Reis...

The Boston Marathon was run yesterday. We know you know, well, maybe you missed it. Bostonist has been hearing about it from every media outlet, so we though it only appropriate to bring our own little wrap-up from our spot at mile 24. Like many who view the marathon from a position late in the course we watched until they hit Cleveland Circle, knowing then it was time to hop up from the couch and hit the sidewalk for the live action.

We knew it was that time of the year when we saw them all huddled together at the Hynes Convention Center T stop, shouting something about “Thin Mints.” Of course our ears perked up and before we knew it, we had shelled out $16.00 for two boxes of Shortbreads and two boxes of “Caramel Delites” (which used to be called “Samoas” back in the day). Yes, we are currently in full swing for the three...

We know you are excited, we have renamed "Upcoming Music Events and Concerts" the Breakdown (at least for the time being). So here it is, the second installment of must-see gigs for the weekend, next week, and in the future. Please let us know if you have any suggestions for events that you want people to hear about that don't manage to make it on the Bostonist radar - just shoot us an e-mail at bostonistmusic (at) gmail dot com.

This weekend the City of Boston and Life is Good hope that 30,000 carved up pumpkins show up on the Boston Common. This Saturday, October 22, carved pumpkins, or pumpkins to carve can be brought to the Common with a votive candle to be included in the record breaking attempt. Keene, NH owns the current record of most lit jack-o-lanterns in one place. They managed to get 28,952 pumpkins lit and in one place to...

With the weather cooling off this week and the end of summer fastly approaching, Bostonist was please to see that the restaurant, Noir, is keeping summer alive with a Tequila Fiesta tonight; $25 dollars will get you a taste of several different upscale tequila brands in margaritas as well as other tequila-themed drinks. If you've never enjoyed the experience at Noir, it is located in the Charles Hotel in Harvard Square. If you can't make it over to Cambridge tonight, but still want to enjoy the warmer weather and ability to find a parking space before all the college students return, head over to the Sunset Cantina on Comm. Ave; it is home to the largest selection of tequilas in Boston, and the bartenders there can make almost any type of margarita your heart desires. (Why is the Sunset Cantina better than its brother bar, the Sunset Grill, in Allston? Outdoor seating, of course.) Now only if the weather could stay warm year round.

About a year ago Bostonist picked up a copy of an EP single from a friend down in NYC (ok, so he worked at Verve, we won’t lie). We’d never heard of Brazilian Girls as a band, only as half naked samba dancers in Rio. Falling in love on first listen, we pledged to buy the full album when it came out. Their eponymous album appeared on the market this February and brings twelve tracks of that special mix of sounds Bostonist fell in love with. The funk, jazz, pop, world, or whatever they’ve been classified as works for us. When their show in March sold out, we hoped they would come back and give Boston a second chance.

This morning it wasn’t just Flag Day on Cambridge Common it was a birthday party for the Army. Protests broke out amidst the celebration, though the Army held ground with greater firepower. The protesters asserted that the Army was attempting to recruit more Soldiers for a "useless war." But, Bostonist isn’t really surprised that in Cambridge, or pretty much anywhere in Massachusetts, there might be some protests to go along with a celebration honoring the...

Today is Valentine's Day, welcomed by Hallmark stores and dreaded by all singletons in the city. Bostonist won't be spending it with anyone special this year, except for Jack Bauer, so we looked into some other options than a romantic candlelit dinner for one. Here's what we came up for those of you looking to go out tonight: The Boston Young Professionals Association has planned a "My Tie Valentine's Day Event" for those looking...

If you are looking for something to do tonight besides watch "the last five minutes of The O.C." why not venture to Somerville and take in some alcohol and sweets? The Somerville Chamber of Commerce is hosting "A Wine and Chocolate Affair to Remember" which features local distributors and their samples of wines and chocolates. This second annual event is sure to satisfy whatever craving you might be having tonight...word on the street is that there are appetizers and a chocolate fountain to boot. It's being held at the Good Time Emporium in Assembly Square, from 6p.m. to 9p.m. Tickets are $20. If you go, let Bostonist know...unfortunately, we'll be home watching Summer and Seth.
