The "Today" show investigated health violations at food courts, including at Boston's Faneuil Hall. Bostonist loves Faneuil Hall, but this report wasn't flattering. Common violations include rodents, insects, and food being kept at the wrong temperature, according to NBC.

Somewhat less annoying to us than most Christmas songs. Will it become a classic? "Sing loud, Boston, and raise your favorite pint of beer." Featuring Big D and the Kids Table as well as dj BC.
Yesterday, forces of nature combined to bring us multiple encounters with the Jersey Shore. First, we noted that Boston and New Jersey both have areas that give them a bad name: Faneuil Hall and the Jersey Shore, respectively. Then, we encountered our friend Aaron Cohen's Jersey Shore Nickname Generator, inspired by the new MTV series Jersey Shore and created with help from Chris McCoy. So we typed, and we clicked, and we found that our Jersey Shore nickname is Pookie. Not bad. A friend got Tan Jovi; another, The Bicep. And Paul Revere? Well, you can see that one for yourself.
After a Friday night of feeling really old, Bostonist's friend Jimmy Mac managed to attend a show where he fit right in. Here, according to Jim, is how Ted Leo and the Pharmacists rocked it at the Middle East on Saturday, December 5. Also, Jim doesn't know how to use a camera, so Sean Hafferty kindly let us use some photos he took for our friends at Ryan's Smashing Life.
As we know, the Globe is in trouble, and has a May 1 deadline to save $20 million to save itself. Join the Massachusetts AFL-CIO today at Faneuil Hall for a rally to save the Globe. Will a real live gathering be more productive than a blog rally?
General Growth Properties, whose "growth" we've criticized before, has filed for bankruptcy. The City of Boston owns the property; GGP was just leasing and operating it. The bankruptcy will require the city to take a larger role in managing Faneuil. This town just can't get by without all those touristy kiosks and Urban Outfitters, so we hope the city manages the marketplace well.
The Globe reports that the Boston Redevelopment Authority has given General Growth Properties 30 days to clean up its act or lose its lease on Faneuil Hall Marketplace. The company, which has been trying to sell its lease on the tourist trap, is in apparent default on several provisions of the lease, according to the City. Among the problems cited: the company has not provided evidence of general public liability insurance, which is especially troubling since the Marketplace has suffered two hold-ups and one serious pedestrian accident in the past three months. No word on any lease provisions limiting the number of living statues allowed on the property at any given time. [Globe]

The Natick Collection, Faneuil Hall, and Providence Place, all owned by General Growth Properties, are (as we noted in May) apparently growing in the wrong direction--or not growing at all. The company, based in Chicago, has nearly $1 billion in debt that it must refinance soon; if that's not possible, it'll be bye bye Natick et al. Wherever will we shop?
If you missed the boys this morning, don't miss them this Saturday at Newbury Comics. You can get an autograph and everything! Squee!
-- Early this morning, police found a man shot to death at the corner of Circuit Street and Walnut Ave., in Roxbury, near Washington Park. The victim was 20-years-old. No arrests have been made, and no motive has been advanced. He was Boston's third homicide in the past 24 hours and the 33rd of the year. [BPDNews]
-- A man was shot and killed in Mattapan last Thursday night. Police say that Victor Torres, 21, was killed by a single gunshot wound. Torres was not known to police, who are still trying to determine whether he was the intended victim of the gunman. No arrests have been made. The shooting took place blocks away from the residence where five month-year-old Alianna Peguero was shot in an apparently gang-related incident. Universal Hub has a map of shootings that have taken place in the southern Boston neighborhoods since the April 21st killing of Luis Troncoso on a basketball court in Southwest Corridor Park, an incident that sparked Boston's summer of gang beef. From the group that brought you a flash mob pillow fight on the Common in the middle of December... The Banditos Misteriosos are back with a new adventure up their collective sleeve: Boston's First Silent Dance Experiment. On this Saturday, February 23rd at 1:00 p.m. tourists and Bostonians walking by the Sam Adams Statue in front of Faneuil Hall will be treated to a unique sight when hundreds of people hit play on their portable mp3 players and begin to dance in unison.
Is it even an argument at this point? Boston's Mayor Menino caused the Patriots' loss by planning the city's victory party a little too early and much too transparently. Last Wednesday, well before the unthinkable happened, the Herald was already proclaiming, "Tommy, you might as well have suited up for the hated Giants."
