In a world where there's nothing to do but watch movies. In a city full of theaters, museums, and libraries. One moviegoer who can be in three places at once. Bostonist loves it when friends from out of town come and visit. Yet, when those out-of-towners get to decide the party destination on a Saturday night, beware, my friends. A few weeks ago, Bostonist found itself in Quincy at the over-promoted-on-JAMN 94.5 bar/club Waterworks. Yes, Waterworks, where there is always some sort of ladies' night or Hawaiian Tropic bikini contest. (Luckily on this Saturday, the winds had kicked up and there were no bikinis being sported.) For those that have never had the pleasure of going to Waterworks, it's similar to a club on Lansdowne but with a lot of imported palm trees and sand. Bostonist was instantly transported to the 90210 beach set (remember the Beach Club where Brandon worked and Brenda worked on her tan?), complete with the cabanas and volleyball court. After a $10 cover charge to enter, Bostonist wandered to the bar, purchased a $5 Corona, and took in all the sites: bachelorette parties, overly-gym obsessed guys, grinding go-go dancers on stage, and some really drunk people. Now, as much as Bostonist wanted to write off Waterworks before walking in, the place wasn't entirely horrific. The decor was realistic enough that you forgot you were in Quincy and the people-watching rivalled that of Newbury Street. $5 for a beer is probably more than most places in Quincy charge but we're talking about THE Marina Bay here, people. Will Bostonist go back? Not likely, but for those who are in dire need of Floridian ambience, Waterworks is your destination.
