Bostonist fully plans to go out tonight after the new episode of Veronica Mars at 9PM on UPN. After meeting the cast on Friday, naturally, Bostonist is convinced of their beauty and purity and is happy to support them by watching the show. However, there are plenty of options tonight music-wise, and you could run around the whole city trying to take in the culture. Let's start of the Boston side of the river....
If you try and forget for a second that Jimmy Fallon is the lead in this movie and you focus some more on the fact that Fever Pitch is more a love letter from two New England boys to our Red Sox and to the city of Boston, you might just enjoy it. Thankfully, reviews are coming in saying that this is a winner and something that people will enjoy. Bostonist will be at the theater this weekend taking it in and will no doubt have more than enough to say about what's good and what's "retahded".
Alright, everybody calm down. Come down off the ledge, sit back, grab a beer and relax.
Boston Red Sox have long supported the Jimmy Fund as their official charity. Today Mayor Menino brings another Jimmy to the Hub. Jimmy Fallon will be given a key to the city later today in a ceremony officiated by Menino and Governor Mitt Romney. After Fallon’s six year stint on Saturday Night Live and countless portrayals of characters hailing from the Bay State Jimmy Fallon will be given the honor he deserves. Recurring characters portrayed by Jimmy Fallon such as Pat Sullivan, Patrick Fitzwilliam, and Romney’s personal favorite of Jarret the Hamphire College best friend of Gobi (Horatio Sanz) are attributed as initiation rights for Fallon as an honorary Bostonian. Mayor Menino said in a written statement "Jimmy Fallon has done a lot to honor Boston's tradition of Irish heritage and fanatic following of the Red Sox." Fallon’s upcoming release of Fever Pitch in which he co-stars with Drew Barrymore has propelled Fallon into the Boston honorary citizen hall of fame. An impersonated Southie accent and honor given to the Boston Red Sox victory last fall made Menino and Romney feel compelled to honor Jimmy Fallon for his contribution in glorifying Boston. The ceremony is to be held this afternoon at Fenway Park where Jimmy will not only be presented with a key to the city but will also receive the winning ball from the final game of the World Series 2004.
While Bostonist thought it was bit strange to see two non-Sox fans on the field that night, we will accept it if the Farrelly Brothers pull off another "wicked good" comedy. Early screenings have called their new flick better than "Something About Mary." Well, if it isn't, we'll sign up with Rich Brady.
