Judging by the looks of it, the Bush Administration wishes that the nation would just forget that American soldiers are fighting and dying in Iraq. But they haven't forgotten in Boston. After several years of war, yesterday's protest on Boston Common drew what the Globe estimated to be several hundred people. The Globe also reported that the "turnout at today's event was better than expected." The war has been hitting Massachusetts directly. Keith Callahan,......

Soon, our Eastern friends will find themselves as addicted to donuts and coffee as we are if Dunkin' Donuts has its way. Yesterday, Dunkin' Donuts put out a press release to declare the company has opened a store in Taipei, Taiwan. Besides the obvious donuts, the Taipei menu includes "sweet potato, green apple and pineapple doughnuts, and mochi rings." The Wall Street Journal reported that Dunkin' Donuts won't shock the Taiwanese customers with coffee just......

The Globe ran a piece in today's edition about tensions in Framingham with some of the locals and their ire towards all the Brazilians making Framingham the spot for those immigrating from Samba-land. These days the Brazilians as a whole are much more conspicuous around Boston thanks to the World Cup. Green and yellow can be seen everywhere as the people from Brazil celebrate their Seleção in hopes that they bring home their record......

First off, we know the headline is misleading. This post is all news about citizen media - we're not going to be bold and try to claim that it actually is citizen journalism. Some say Dan Gillmor is the father of citizen media. Regardless of whether you believe that, he did, in fact, write the book on it. This year he’s a non-resident fellow at the Berkman Center and lectured there earlier this week.......

Delahunt, working with Citizens Energy Corporation, secured a 40% discount on the 12 million gallons of oil arriving in Massachusetts......

Is the legislature's recent flurry of healthcare activity the result of genuine care for the residents of the Commonwealth, or are lawmakers caught up with questions of mortality because today is the Day of the Dead? Whatever the case, Bostonist urges you not to put away your skeleton costume just yet, as there are some goings on about town to mark the traditional Mexican holiday. While we could simply direct you to the Wikipedia page......

Last night PBS premiered “RX for Survival - A Global Health Challenge,” a three-part, six-hour series on worldwide public health. Focusing on innovations in the last century, including vaccines and antibiotics, the series highlights efforts to eradicate disease around the world and comes at a timely moment: The Massachusetts State Legislature is debating a bill that would change healthcare coverage in the state and the White House just yesterday, released a plan to address the......

St. Patrick’s day is a day for everyone to celebrate Ireland, drink beer, and wear green—even if they’re not Irish. Boston College launches a new searchable database on all the "missing friends" from the Boston Pilot. They are holding an event today at 1 p.m. to announce the official launch, with a reception to follow. The missing friends ads were a bit like missed connections ads on craigslist before telephones made their true mark on......
