Barnstable native Kevin Houston, 36, of Chesapeake, Virginia was one of the 30 Americans killed Saturday in Afghanistan when a military helicopter was shot down. -- Deshawn James Chappell was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation at Chelsea District Court after being arrested for allegedly killing Stephanie Moulton of Peabody. Chappell lived at a North Suffolk Mental Health Association group home in Revere where Moulton worked as a senior counselor. He allegedly attacked her at the group home before taking off with her. Moulton was found dead behind the St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Lynn on Thursday. Her car was found in Dorchester and was covered in blood. Police didn't disclose how she died. A 42-year old Waltham man is being held without bail after allegedly attacking his father with an ax. He was arraigned in Waltham District Court for attempted murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, mayhem, violation of an abuse prevention order, failure to stop for police and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. A 68-year old Framingham man died after a drug raid at 26 Fountain St. in Framingham in which a SWAT team member's weapon discharged, killing Eurie Stamp. Police arrested Joseph Bushfan, 20, of Framingham, and Devon Talbert, also 20, of Boston, for possession with intent to deliver a class B drug and drug violation in a school zone based on a Framingham sting operation. Bushfan was held on $5000 cash bail and has prior offenses. Talbot was released on personal recognizance. Police got a search warrant after a confidential informant allegedly bought crack cocaine from Bushfan and Talbert. The shooting is still being investigated. [Globe] more ›

A Framingham custodian was hit by a roll of toilet paper while restocking toilet paper rolls in a town hall bathroom on Wednesday. A Framingham resident was in the bathroom and was upset that the custodian was whistling while working. He yelled, threw a roll of toilet paper and fled. The suspect is due in court to face an assault and battery charge. We're trying to figure out why this incident requires charges. All charges alleged until proven under law. more ›

    A 57-year old Massachusetts Highway was killed on Tuesday by an alleged drunk driver on Route 9 in Framingham. Gregory Vilidnitsky was left unconscious in the breakdown lane bleeding and later died after being hit by a pickup truck driven by Jeremy Gardner of Bridgton, Maine. Gardner fled the scene and Walter Smith of Barre, Vermont took over the wheel and tried to drive away. Construction workers and Middlesex County sheriffs working a detail detained the suspects until police arrived. Gardner was held on $100,000 cash bail at Framingham District Court and is charged with his second operating under the influence offense; motor vehicle homicide; speeding; and leaving the scene of an accident, Smith has a $50,000 cash bail with his third operating under the influence offense; and leaving the scene of an accident, All charges alleged until proven under law.     --Three teens, at least two of whom were friends, went to Callahan State Park in Framingham on Saturday to smoke marijuana and only two lived to tell the tale. The trio arrived in a Volvo, two fought over some allegedly stolen pot, guns were drawn and witneses heard three shots and a man yelling. According to police reports, the shooter said he would kill the victim and anyone who snitched on him, and "did not care if he went to jail for life." Nice.     --A 24-year old Framingham man was arrested for allegedly having 31 bags of marijuana in his car after a failed attempt at a street race. Police observed two cars "revving their engines and spinning their tires" at a Speen Street intersection in Natick. One car failed to start the race. The other car drove away.     -- Boston police report that a 26-year-old woman was shot to death at a hotel room in the Copley Marriott last night. The victim was reportedly a masseuse who was advertising in the erotic services section of Craigslist. Police believe that robbery was the motive behind the killing and have released a photograph of "a person of interest."     The Globe reports that Framingham police have told some local residents to remain indoors and beware of an armed, suicidal individual. This knife-wielding 53-year-old man is apparently white, 6 feet tall, and gray-haired, and was first seen at the intersections of Joseph and Nadine roads. the man's wife reported that he was intoxicated and had threatened "suicide by cop" earlier in the day. People in this area of Framingham are encouraged to remain indoors. MetroWest Daily News reports on school lockdowns, which are in effect at Charlotte A. Dunning Elementary School on Frost Street, Walsh Middle School on Brook Street, and George P. King School on Water Street. Dozens of Framingham and state police are searching for this man. If you spot anyone of his description, alert police.

    -- Remember Tormu Prall, the man on the lam from an alleged murder in New Jersey whom Boston police suspected might be in South Boston? It turns out, the BPD might have put him there. Boston police mistakenly released the 35-year-old Trenton man after arresting him on public drinking charges. The processing time for Prall's fingerprints -- four hours -- exceeded the amount of time that a Municipal Court judge would allow the BPD to hold the man, and he was set free. Prall is accused of the 2007 murder of his brother and an attempted murder of a police officer in 2006. [Globe] more ›

    -- A 6-month-old boy who was the subject of an Amber Alert yesterday was recovered unharmed by authorities. Police found the child, Lucas Whalen, with his mother, 24-year-old Danielle Boyle, when a cab driver drove the pair to Arlington police after Boyle could not pay a taxi fare. Boyle has not been charged in connection with the alleged kidnapping, but the boy's father, Michael Whalen, 42, has been charged with parental kidnapping, receiving stolen property, and threatening to commit a crime.     -- A New Bedford woman who was set on fire last December has finally fingered her attackers. Police have taken two suspects -- one a former boyfriend of the victim -- into custody. A third is wanted on a warrant. The victim had been assaulted in her apartment, where she was doused with rubbing alcohol and set ablaze, police say. She suffered burns over her entire body.
