Boston Blotter: Pot Bust, Stolen Cash Register

-- Scituate Police seized 75 pot plants worth about $200,000 and arrested the alleged grower. Police found $15,000 worth of equipment used to grow the marijuana. The suspect was arraigned on Thursday in Hingham District Court on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, third offense; cultivating marijuana; and trafficking in marijuana. Boston Blotter: With a Friend Like This...

--Three teens, at least two of whom were friends, went to Callahan State Park in Framingham on Saturday to smoke marijuana and only two lived to tell the tale. The trio arrived in a Volvo, two fought over some allegedly stolen pot, guns were drawn and witneses heard three shots and a man yelling. According to police reports, the shooter said he would kill the victim and anyone who snitched on him, and "did not care if he went to jail for life." Nice. His attorney asked for cash bail - really - which the judge obviously denied. [MetroWest Daily News]

Boston Blotter: Street Race/Drug Bust; Judge Admits to OUI

--A 24-year old Framingham man was arrested for allegedly having 31 bags of marijuana in his car after a failed attempt at a street race. Police observed two cars "revving their engines and spinning their tires" at a Speen Street intersection in Natick. One car failed to start the race. The other car drove away. The driver charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, racing a vehicle and driving with a suspended license. [MetroWest Daily News]

Boston Blotter: Craigslist Masseuse Killed at Copley Marriott

-- Boston police report that a 26-year-old woman was shot to death at a hotel room in the Copley Marriott last night. The victim was reportedly a masseuse who was advertising in the erotic services section of Craigslist. Police believe that robbery was the motive behind the killing and have released a photograph of "a person of interest." The incident may be related to an earlier prostitute robbery that took place at the Westin Copley hotel. [BPDNews, Herald]

  • Last week, a soldier became the first Iraq casualty from Framingham. Sgt. Scott J. Metcalf suffered "non-combat-related injuries," and his death is being investigated. [Metrowest Daily News]
  • The Globe reports that Framingham police have told some local residents to remain indoors and beware of an armed, suicidal individual. This knife-wielding 53-year-old man is apparently white, 6 feet tall, and gray-haired, and was first seen at the intersections of Joseph and Nadine roads. the man's wife reported that he was intoxicated and had threatened "suicide by cop" earlier in the day. People in this area of Framingham are encouraged to remain indoors. MetroWest Daily News reports on school lockdowns, which are in effect at Charlotte A. Dunning Elementary School on Frost Street, Walsh Middle School on Brook Street, and George P. King School on Water Street. Dozens of Framingham and state police are searching for this man. If you spot anyone of his description, alert police.

    -- Remember Tormu Prall, the man on the lam from an alleged murder in New Jersey whom Boston police suspected might be in South Boston? It turns out, the BPD might have put him there. Boston police mistakenly released the 35-year-old Trenton man after arresting him on public drinking charges. The processing time for Prall's fingerprints -- four hours -- exceeded the amount of time that a Municipal Court judge would allow the BPD to hold the man, and he was set free. Prall is accused of the 2007 murder of his brother and an attempted murder of a police officer in 2006. [Globe]

    --One person was shot at Ryan Playground in Mattapan yesterday afternoon. The injuries were non-life-threatening, but could the shooters at least keep their beef away from the playground? [Boston Globe]

    -- A 6-month-old boy who was the subject of an Amber Alert yesterday was recovered unharmed by authorities. Police found the child, Lucas Whalen, with his mother, 24-year-old Danielle Boyle, when a cab driver drove the pair to Arlington police after Boyle could not pay a taxi fare. Boyle has not been charged in connection with the alleged kidnapping, but the boy's father, Michael Whalen, 42, has been charged with parental kidnapping, receiving stolen property, and threatening to commit a crime.     --A young woman from Southbridge died from a gunshot wound after an alleged robbery attempt in the Bronx, NY. The 18-year-old's fiance was also wounded in the incident. Her young child, who was nearby, was unharmed. [Boston Herald, Gothamist]

    -- A New Bedford woman who was set on fire last December has finally fingered her attackers. Police have taken two suspects -- one a former boyfriend of the victim -- into custody. A third is wanted on a warrant. The victim had been assaulted in her apartment, where she was doused with rubbing alcohol and set ablaze, police say. She suffered burns over her entire body.     Update: The body of Roc Sanon, who was declared missing over the weekend, was found near Route 98 and Interstate 93. The BPD says, "The death does not appear to be suspicious." [BPD News]

    --A Level 3 sex offender who didn't register as an offender and left Massachsuetts was tracked down and arrested in Las Vegas. [Boston Globe]

    --In Hopkinton, 17 teenagers were arrested for a booze-fueled party. Yes, a "keeper of a disorderly house" charge was involved. [MetroWest Daily News]

    --Two people were stabbed, one fatally, at the intersection of Melnea Cass Boulevard and Washington Street late yesterday afternoon. An unidentified man died, and an unidentified woman sustained life-threatening injuries. The two suspects then got on an MBTA bus. At rush hour. Traffic mayhem ensued. When a person allegedly commits a crime that leads to a traffic mess, they should not expect an easy escape. They were apprehended. [BPD News, Boston Globe]

    -- A woman was robbed at gunpoint today during a daytime invasion of her parents' home in Everett. Michelle Nguyen, 24 of Malden, was babysitting her 2 year-old nephew this morning when a man dressed completely in black entered the house and held a gun to her head. She parted with $500. Both Nguyen and her nephew were left unharmed. [Herald]

    A tipper left notice yesterday that another Massachusetts college campus found "threatening notes" in the school bathrooms. After notes appeared at Bridgewater State and Framingham State, a janitor found notes in UMass-Amherst bathrooms.

    --Someone found violent messages in women's bathrooms, along with the date of February 28 (tomorrow), at Bridgewater State. Given recent violent incidents on college campuses nationwide, the school boosted security. Police are offering a $500 reward to find out who did it. [Boston Globe, Boston Herald]

    -- Update on the stabbing in Revere. Police have identified the suspect. 23 year-old Cory Roche, of Lynn, allegedly stabbed his mother to death in her home yesterday. Police responding to the incident shot Roche in the torso after he allegedly refused to drop a knife.

    -- An early Valentine's Day celebration turned violent this morning when a 41 year-old Roxbury man allegedly assaulted his date in her Dorchester home with an aluminum pan. The pair had been celebrating the holiday with cocktails before they got into an argument. She was washing dishes when the argument escalated to blows. The suspect struck the victim repeatedly with the pan before police arrived. He stands charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. [BPDNews]

    --Cambridge was the scene of a violent attack on a homeless man. Early on January 29, the man was walking with his girlfriend in Central Square on Norfolk when three men attacked him, and one of them stabbed him in the back. [Cambridge Chronicle]

    --An update on the murder of Daniel Yakovleff, who was stabbed to death in Dorchester. The lawyer for the man who owned the apartment in which Yakovleff died says that the BPD no longer considers the owner a suspect and that they are looking for a third man who may be involved with the crime. However, the BPD is saying that the owner is still a "person of interest." Police are still trying to find out how Yakovleff went from the Eagle bar in the South End to the Dorchester apartment.     --A Brazilian doctor pled guilty today of manslaughter after allegedly killing a woman in a botched liposuction surgery that took place in a Framingham house in 2006. However, the judge has rejected the guilty plea. [WBZ]
