Bostonist won't fall into the trap of trying to describe indie music with words. Abandon the description and get your tail feather on over to T.T. the Bear's Place tonight and shake it at a show featuring French Kicks. They're headliners now. "Trial of the Century" released last spring propelled them to the top of the docket. Once upon a time, like sometime last year, they only garnered second or third billing. Then the music media machine noticed that people having a lot of fun listening to this quartet. French Kicks are in good company; the Walkmen share their label, Guided by Voices (among others) share their producer. That is not to say they sound like those bands, but greatness loves company. The new standard of indie; not punk, not emo, maybe new rock, and good music pushes French Kicks into 2005 on a high note. If there is one good reason to go to Austin, Texas it is South by SouthWest, SXSW as the cool kids call it. The French Kicks jump the New England ship in March to make it down to the annual music festival. Bostonist hopes that they come back with some really cool collaboration that we never expected. For now, you can hear all you want over at TT’s.
