As Hurricane Irene draws closer, there are signs of how serious this storm is. Fox News Channel has reported there are as many as three deaths, two in North Carolina and a third, a child, in Virginia. In the NYC, Mayor Bloomberg announced a mandatory evacuation, which he apparently can do. In Massachusetts, Governor Deval Patrick said state officials are ready for this dangerous storm. Five days after tornadoes swept through Western and Central Massachusetts, Governor Deval Patrick initiated legislation to begin the recovery process for affected comunities. He authorized $10 million to pay for emergency efforts from state agencies such as the State Police and the National Guard. Four Massachusetts residents died yesterday after a series of storms suddenly spawned tornadoes that swept through the state on Wednesday. The four deaths were in West Springfield (two), one in Springfield, and one in Brimfield. The killer storms took place in a 3-4 hour span and the entire state faced the threat of a tornado.
