We've seen the dinosaurs of our city, aging restaurants like Great Bay, Aujourd'hui and Icarus, go down this week, felled by the figurative dust cloud of the recent recession. Great Bay closed its doors this weekend; Aujourd'hui, in the Four Seasons, will become a private function room later this month; Icarus will close on July 1. All have cited the economy as a major factor in their decision.

Last night, this Bostonist tagged along with Christine Liu, Citysearch's Boston editor, as she scarfed down bevy of one- and five-dollar deals at upscale restaurant Great Bay. For one dollar a piece, we received a plate of tater tots, a plate of onion rings, and a plate of grilled cheese nibbles, made with crusty bread and perfectly melted cheddar cheese.

Restaurant Week is one of the best dining weeks in the Hub, there is one thing that Bostonist thinks might make it better: Tax Free Dining. Anyone think Mitt might let us get away with a Meal Tax Holiday? A fixed-price, tax-free meal would be the closest thing in Boston to a free lunch.
