Paula Deen Butters Up Boston Next Weekend

We know y'all ain't from the South, but we bet you love a little Southern cooking now and then. If Tupelo isn't enough to butter your roll, try a little Paula Deen. The sugar-sweet, butter-obsessed Southerner will be cooking up a storm at the Bank of America Pavilion at 6:30 pm on August 29. From hoecakes to biscuits to deep-fried Twinkies, we hope Deen will fill our every unhealthy need. The show has a bigger purpose than pleasing the tastebuds and fattening the figure, though: it's a benefit* for the Greater Boston Food Bank, and attendees are asked to bring food donations in addition to their tickets (which will run you $31-$66, or $150 if you want a meet and greet with Paula).

Bruce Springsteen will play TD Banknorth Garden on April 21 and 22 as part of his Working on a Dream Tour, and you could be in attendance. The Boss has donated several tickets to the Greater Boston Food Bank, which is auctioning them off to benefit its operations. For an opening bid of $1000, you get the chance at four Springsteen tickets and backstage passes. If the winning bid is $10,000 or more, the tickets and passes come with a kicker: the opportunity to meet Bruce himself, along with his band. If you're a big-time fan with big-time bucks, this is a great chance to realize your dreams while also benefiting a worthy cause.

We all know Bostonians love to brunch. This weekend, put that mid-morning appetite to good use and participate in The Greater Boston Food Bank's Super Hunger Brunch.

Bostonist decided to highlight some of the events that might interest you readers out there this holiday weekend:

Trying to sort out where Bostonist is going go this fine Tuesday night we almost forgot that today is the 2005 National Hunger Awareness Day. Still having trouble sorting it out? The competition is on at the Greater Boston Food Bank’s annual food sorting competition. Senator Kennedy kicked off the week long series of corporation vs. corporation events yesterday with a visit to the Food Bank. A true publicity stunt to raise awareness for the...

Lots of the city's fancy restaurants are opening their cash registers this weekend for The 14th Annual Super Hunger Brunch. Thirty-seven eateries are having brunches with 100% of the proceeds going to the Greater Boston Food Bank. Prices range from $20 at Dockside Restaurant to $50 at Icarus. You can pick up a "Chef Card" ticket in advance at the restaurants, and many have already sold out. And if you aren't the type to get up before noon, you can grab dinner at Il Capriccio tonight or Craigie Street Bistro and Garden of Eden tomorrow, and they'll donate some dollars as well.
