--Divers are looking for the body of a man who somehow went from the Mass Pike into Sudbury River last night. [Boston Globe]
--After a series of positive experiences, Urban Paramedic has reconsidered the Guardian Angels: "People may disagree over the value of Guardian Angel patrols, but they certainly deserve credit for believing in what they do." --The Food Monkey has an epiphany thanks to Jacoby Ellsbury's winning a free taco for America. --On Common Ground evaluates the Globe's choices for this year's Top 25 Most Stylish People and finds this year's list to be an improvement over...
Who knew that Commish Ed Davis' radical new idea of having police officers patrol the streets might actually work? According to the Globe, crime is down in Bowdoin-Geneva, Grove Hall, and Downtown Crossing, where the new beats started. Since the back-to-basics plan is doing so well, Davis wants to add even more regular foot patrols. We agree that the Blotter looks slightly less crazy as of late. But we're curious. What happened to the Guardian...
Two men have been arrested for the murder of Chiara Levin in March. 34-year-old Manuel Andrade of Dorchester and 21-year-old Casimiro Barros of Roxbury will be arraigned on Monday in Dorchester District Court. A press release from the office of Suffolk DA Daniel Conley describes how the events leading up to Levin's murder unfolded: "[At the Caprice Lounge] she and her friends met Manuel Andrade and two other men. Levin and her friends went with...
Okay. You're gonna need a map for this one. Those who were already ambivalent toward or completely against the Guardian Angels have more reason to be skeptical of the group. Apparently the Angels' screening process could use an overhaul because a registered sex offender is among their ranks. However, we aren't quite sure what's going on because the Globe and the Herald are have different takes on the story. Here's the real story: The Guardian...
--A bank robbery happened in West Roxbury yesterday, followed by a wild police chase in Dedham. A woman in her 20s did the usual routine of handing a note to a teller and getting some cash.
--The Commish has talked tough before, but Ed Davis says that he will deploy more police to town "hot spots" (also known as places where people get shot), and the police will start tailing persons of interest. The "hot spots" are as follows: Bowdoin/Geneva, Franklin Field/Franklin Park, and Grove Hall in Dorchester. Egleston Square in Roxbury is also included. Davis didn't mention bringing gang members to the negotiating table, at least not as far as...
--Universal Hub spotted a few brief lines in the Transcript's police and fire log: "A West Roxbury woman reported to police that her neighbor, who accused her dog of soiling his lawn, threw dog feces on her lawn. A harassment report was filed." One can only imagine the years of simmering resentment as poop appeared on the neighbor's yard. Whether or not this woman's dog was the source of the poop, it's easy to see...
--Commissioner Ed Davis isn't thrilled that the Guardian Angels want to come back to Boston. Guardian Angel leader Curtis Sliwa says that's Davis' problem, and the Angels are coming back to Boston anyway. The Guardian Angels have been here before, but they left in 1992. In fact, you might see the trademark red beret of the Angels starting tomorrow. (And let us know if you do.) --Since Chiara Levin died, it seems as if our...
The Chiara Levin case has unleashed an outcry against the gun violence. People are fed up. Reverend Bruce Wall says he will post signs around the city warning tourists that they are not safe in Boston if the mayor doesn't act now and declare a state of emergency. Maybe that will get the mayor to stop talking about after-hours house parties and start talking about gangs and guns. The Herald quotes what Wall plans to...
