Thunderstorms are on the way, with a chance of hail. The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for "urban areas and small streams in Norfolk County, including the cities of Weymouth, Quincy, and Franklin," reports the Globe. Plymouth County has a flood warning as well, and Norfolk and northwestern Bristol County have severe thunderstorm warnings.

HEARTHROB Tuesday, December 4th Middlesex Lounge 315 Massachusetts Ave. Cambridge, MA 9pm / 21+ / FREE w/ special guests: Peppermint Twinz (Christopher Wade + Initiales A.A.) It's surprising that a dance night like Hearthrob could be so successful considering it has hardly more than a MySpace page and does little to no promotion. The reigning master of such success is still word-of-mouth, and that is something that the three New England-based DJs have built...
Paris is in jail, the Red Sox are on their way to California, Mitt is still running for president, but we're bringing it back to the clubs. Well, the clubs and urban outfitters. Some folks that seem like they've been around forever (dinosaur jr.) and those who legitimately have been around forever (Lee "scratch" Perry) come and visit the nontraditional and traditional venues, respectively, as part of this weeks music picks. Tuesday 6/5 The...
Like New York City, we've got our newspaper of record. In NYC it's the Times, here it's the Globe. But neither are really any fun. The action happens on the pages of the tabs. The Herald gives us our daily dose of puns in the headlines and 108 point font to let us know what's really important. But our friends at Gothamist have pointed out that the New York Post may have one-upped the Herald...
As you know, its the halfway point in the baseball season and Bostonist's favorite team is in a good position. We are always looking for a new webcast to listen to and during this All-Star break, we thought we would take a look at the Without a Curse podcast.
Doug Flutie, Heisman Trophy Winner, NFL Pro-Bowler, CFL legend, and the man who put Boston College football on the map, has retired after 21 years (yes, twenty-one) of professional football.
From the Hail Mary pass tossed in 1984 for Boston College, to his signing with the Bears, then back home with the Patriots where he belonged - well, until he went up north and played for the Canadian Football League, Doug Flutie has been on the Boston sports radar. In 1998 he came back down to the States (not too far south) playing for the Buffalo Bills. He then signed with the San Diego Chargers in 2001. After being the oldest starting QB in NFL history, Flutie had been relegated to second string duty for the Chargers. So he came back home. Calling Natick home since age six, Flutie signed with the Pats, the home team, in 2005 to become backup for Tom Brady. On January 1, 2006 Flutie scored an extra point against the Dolphins with a drop kick, something not accomplished since 1941. Today, after only a season back with the Pats, Flutie announced his retirement from professional football at age 43.
There is only so long that we’re going to be able to hold out before the entire list of the week’s picks will be outdoor venues. Well, that’ll probably never happen until they dome the roof at Paradise and we can rock under the stars. We are, however, ecstatic about the warmer temperatures and the daylight which stretches until late – it helps us gear up for the night’s show. After a weekend of...
One of Bostonist’s favorite weekend activities is catching up on all those trashy MTV reality shows that we often miss during the work week. And luckily, this weekend we were able to watch the premiere episode of "The Real World Key West", which we believe will be the most mentally unstable of all the seasons. This week’s episode included the standard “seven people picked to live in a house and have their lives taped” but Bostonist also noticed that there are a couple of castmates who hail from New England. The gay cast member, Tyler, is 23, grew up in Minnesota, recently graduated from Tufts University and now resides in Davis Square with roommates. According to a recent article in the Herald, he’s pursuing television production and of course, he’ll now fall into the group of pseudo-Boston celebrities that have done reality shows. While Tyler definitely made some snide comments here and there, we enjoyed him as he threw catty comments at some of his roommates. And a hint from Tyler as what’s to come this season:
DCist helps us make more sense of the world this week. Posts like this concert review are the reason for Scott Stapp. DCist also enumerates the reasons for playing ultimate frisbee, Condi's tight buns, their love of a local convenience store, and their jealousy of a person in Seattle calling the city. LAist documented graf artist Banksy's most recent visit to LA in one two three posts. They also found the best possible use...
Today Massachusetts observes Patriots Day, memorializing the shots heard around the world in the battle at Lexington. Last night in the Providence, R.I. police headquarters Detective James Allen was shot and killed by his own weapon. A Boston man has been blamed for the crime. Bostonist sends our sympathy to the Providence police force even if we’re still mad for that speeding ticket we got last September. Esteban Carpio who doesn’t seem to have a...
With hardly a wasted day after the sad and unexpected death of State Senator Charlie Shannon (D-Winchester) earlier this week, the political rat-race to replace him has begun. Already some local politicians have been working phones trying to feel out their chances for that seat. Interestingly, though the 2nd Middlesex District includes parts of the late Senator's hometown of Winchester, as well as Woburn, Medford, and Somerville, most of the people around whom speculation is circulating hail from the latter.
Brady might have two (well, let's count on a third) Superbowl titles, but starring in a Simpsons' episode...now that's big.
