Despite the fact that Happy Hour drink deals are illegal in Boston, there are still a lot of great deals to be had at bars around town. The bar at McCormick & Schmick's, for example, offers up cheap and delicious meals, a pleasant surprise considering that dinner there can be more on the expensive side. more ›

It's not often that an event, by its very existence, gives the lie to two powerful stereotypes about a place. But in a city known for neither its happy hours nor its tacos, Bella Luna's Taco Happy Hour does just that. more ›

The last helping of gefilte fish and horseradish has been consumed; three boxes of Peeps lay empty on the floor; by the time the alarm goes off tomorrow morning a battle will have been reenacted on the Lexington green – So we’re thinking about tomorrow and where we’ll be. We know that not everyone enjoys the benefits of a state holiday so some folks will actually be working as thousands travel the 26.2 from Hopkinton to Boston. We know, from experience, that Marathon Monday can be a good use of a vacation day. How will Bostonist watch the marathon? Read on… more ›

We’ve been blogging here in our tiny corner of the internets for just over a year and we’ve finally put together a party - and it won't be the standard happy hour. We want you to come. There will be a couple of live local acts we've nailed down, we’re still working on the DJ details to keep things hopping until the end of the night. When you wake up from your green beer hangover sometime mid-week next week make sure that you've already put this on your calendar. more ›

Because we love passing on the word about anything and everything that involves the word "free", Bostonist would like to inform you of some free burritos coming your way today. For those that don’t follow the going-ons of local eateries like Bostonist, you might not be aware that The Wrap restaurant chain, with all their sandwiches, burritos and smoothies, has gone through an identity crisis and has become “Boloco" (We heard this means "Boston Local Company"? Can any reader out there confirm?) with their new tagline" inspired burritos." To celebrate their new name and new logo, the stores will be giving away free burritos yesterday from 11am-4pm. Head to one of the three participating locations and grab a freebie, but lets not be greedy, kids. One per customer, puh-lease. If you can't make it today, don't fret. There are more free burrito days in the future. And according to this Globe article a few months ago, burrito places are invading Boston. And we thought the competition between the dueling relatives of Anna's and Boca Grande was bad. more ›

Mama Bear Jen Chung made the top five. In fact, she’s number three. Bostonist recently stumbled upon our very own Katie listed on David Krug’s site as a “2006 Sleeper” for the top ten most powerful women in the blogosphere. In the spirit of High Fidelity, we really can’t get enough of these lists. The liberalcowboy (David Krug) put together one of the many lists on his site and titled it “10 Most Powerful Women in Blogging.” Being vain, as we bloggers are sometimes known to be, the posting was hit and made it half-way around the ‘net. Katie reports that when she got caught googling herself last week, the Krug list was a top hit. We’re happy to know that she’ll potentially be knocking back some shots with the Pats in the post-season. Stays tuned for the next Bostonist Happy Hour, when she promises to drunk-dial some sushi afterward and do a “wicked sweet” post on it. We don't quite know what to make of Katie's being a sleeper pick for '06, especially since number eight on the list of 10 is Joi Ito, a guy. more ›

This weekend The Baxter drops into theaters in Boston. It's one of those "now in select cities" things, and we're up. Bostonist has seen the trailers all over the place and we're actually looking forward to this movie. A comedy for anyone who's ever been dumped? check. It's from the folks at IFC and The Onion to boot. It stars Michael Showalter (Stella) and co-stars Paul Rudd (The 40-Year Old Virgin) and Michael Ian Black (Stella, Ed). Catch interviews of Michael Showalter and Michael Ian Black on Chicagoist and Gothamist. And if you are curious if you might be a Baxter just take the quiz more ›

Monday morning. Back to work. Where's the weekend? It won't be Friday for another couple days. Don't worry. This week Bostonist is helping you get over the hump. Bostonist will be holding our second-ever Happy Hour Wednesday night at the Middlesex in Cambridge. Please do not misconstrue our assertions, we're not promising humping, only a way to get over-the-hump. The Middlesex Lounge will play host to the Bostonist Happy Hour on September 14, 2005 starting... more ›

It was just seven months ago when Bostonist was released to the general public. The Gothamist network has added siblings almost as fast as pandas have been born around the country. Bostonist is holding our second-ever Happy Hour to belatedly celebrate our half birthday. This time we’re taking the show across the river. more ›

As Bostonist walked home from a very important post-work meeting (Happy Hour), we were a little confused when we came to the Park Street T stop to find it surrounded by police cars, ambulances, and blocked off with yellow "Police Line: Do Not Cross" tape. At first, we assumed that some T skidded off the tracks or someone passed out due to the heat in one of those special unair-conditioned cars that we all love. Bostonist got little answers from the Transit Police who told us to walk up Tremont to the Boylston. As we walked to the next stop, we came across droves of people waiting at the bus stop. It wasn't looking good and it got worse when arriving at the Boylston stop, when the T worker simply yelled "Nope. Closed" at us. Bostonist took a chance and walked into the Arlington T station and it was actually functioning. After tuning into the always hyped Fox 25 News at 10, we learned that a bomb threat was called in to Police, directing them to the Park Street T stop. Of course, the MBTA's website mentioned nothing of the delays or threat. more ›

One last reminder for those people who can't remember what they had for dinner last night, nevermind something like a Happy Hour announced last week. more ›

Start off the upcoming holiday weekend early on Thursday night at the first (of many, hopefully) Bostonist Happy Hour at the Beantown Pub. Put it in your Blackberry so you won't forget (or just write it on your good ol' desk calendar like the technologically savvy Bostonist). We hope to see you all there! more ›

Now that summer is officially here, Bostonist has decided to celebrate with a beer. We'd like to invite you out there to join us for a few drinks at the very first Bostonist Happy Hour next week. Stop by and say hello, give us feedback/ideas, and of course inform us of the grammatical errors you've come across on the site during our first few months. We might have to call into work sick Friday if you come out and give us good reason. We hope you will come out and kick off the Independence Day weekend right, on Thursday! more ›

Okay, Bostonist has never been one to have any interest in attending a flower show...lots of flowers, lots of older people, lots of boredom. But perhaps with the recent slamming of awful weather on the city, or the boredom of watching MTV all weekend, the New England Flower Show might just be the brightening up that Bostonist needs. Starting this Sunday, March 13th at the Bayside Expo and running thru Saturday, March 19th, this annual... more ›

[Editor's note: Bostonist was reminded that Massachusetts does not allow "Happy Hours" due to the state liquor laws. Most of the places listed above have special food prices since they can't reduce prices on alcohol. Bostonist still likes to call it "Happy Hour" even though it is not truly as happy as it once was...] more ›
