March brings us Women's History Month and a host of book events, some of them female-focused. From fine fiction to incisive historical analysis, the readings this month run the gamut. Big names are largely absent, but big ideas still abound.

Harvard Coop, 3rd floor
The Harvard Coop went all RIAA on students last week and told students that they couldn't bring pens and take notes because they don't want students buying cheaper books. And Thursday they called police on three students who were taking down ISBN numbers so they could find those books online. The Cambridge PD clearly felt it was a waste of their time because they let the students stay. They weren't shoplifting. And, besides, it's the...

Bridie Clark will be reading at the Harvard Coop Thursday, March 8, at 7:00 pm. Bridie Clark is one brave woman. The Harvard alum recently released the chick-lit book Because She Can. It's a Devil Wears Prada-esque tale of a good-hearted but ambitious young woman who falls into the claws of a ruthless exec. The ruthless exec in Bridie Clark's debut novel might seem awfully familiar to book fans. Vivian Grant is the head of...

After graduating from Harvard in 1983, Simon has been a committed member of the Cambridge...
Harvard's annual four day art festival, Arts First, starts tonight with an art walk to four of the dormitory galleries. This year includes over 200 events, from Japanese tea ceremonies and Shakespeare to Yo-Yos and jazz. Throw in a parade and a picnic, and we're sold. Maybe we'll even catch a glimpse of John Lithgow, the exceptionally tall founder of Arts First. Perhaps he'll be at the conversation and reading with this year's medalist, poet Maxine Kumin. Drop by the Harvard Coop or the Holyoke Center (the Au Bon Pain building) to pick up a comprehensive guide.
