A metal band from Athol filed a complaint with the Massachusetts Commission of Discrimination, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette reports. Members of the band, Necronomichrist (say that 10 times fast!), were upset because the city's Skate Park Committee said the band couldn't perform a fundraiser. The band thought the committee took issue with their buffet of stated religions. The members include a Satanist, an agnostic/Satanist, two agnostics, an athiest, and a Satanist/Buddhist. To each his......

When it snows in Boston, the rule is clear--you don't park in a spot that another person has shoveled out. The Mayor's Office backs this up: Any Space-savers in on-street parking spaces that have been cleared should be removed 48 hours after a snow storm has ended. WHDH reported on an East Boston resident who found out the hard way what happens if you park in a spot that has been shoveled out and is......

BARONESS Friday, November 30th Middle East Downstairs Cambridge, MA w/ Witchcraft, Radio Moscow 18+ / $10 ADV / $12 DOS MySpace: Baroness The debut EP First by Savannah's Baroness was a bit of al ife-changer. All of a sudden we've got winter. The bonus prize is that it came late enough that when we leave work at 5 o'clock there's still natural light – soon enough it will still be light when we reemerge from the commute home underground on the T. Until the next few weeks pass and we can taste the summer concert and festival season in the spring air we'll continue to keep jamming through the......

Bostonist embraced neighbors and extended family in Northampton by making the westward drive Sunday night to see Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy at the historic (and cold!) Calvin Theater on his solo, acoustic tour. Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche supported with a set of solo drum pieces marked by a highly self-customized and modified kit, unconventional noisemaking, and pretty xylophone tinkering. Despite some very impressive rhythms, the Kotche experience was somewhere between annoying and misunderstood, and Bostonist has......

Bostonist loves local writer Steve Almond for a couple of reasons. First off, he's a hustler and hilariously ubiquitous--open up a local newspaper, check out nerve, what have you, he's likely written something for the publication you're reading. A simplistic summation of his oeuvre--My Life In Heavy Metal, The Evil B.B. Chow and Other Stories, and the nonfiction Candyfreak--can boil his books down to the topics of sex and candy. This weekend, you can......
